Affluenza please ignore the ones who have come on here to cast judgement at you - hugs xxx

I hope you can get things sorted out with the council directly. The important thing is that you are now making the effort to try and sort it out.

I think that some of the posters have got their wires crossed about who you are etc and are reacting to the wrong info/person.

No i do not work in Insolvency,me and my partner are both on minimum wages but we live within our means and pay our debts

I work in the insolvency industry and would advise you to write to the OR / Insolvency Practioner and advise them that you have the scaffolding and that you are going to sell it to recover your debt and that it is a security issue being around your property.I can advise you they will not come to collect it !!

You didn't post this then on another thread? Many apologies if you didn't...

Equaliser, you are quoting the obvious but in real terms i deal with these situations on a daily basis and i can advise you that i come across people selling assets which belong to the estate of a Bankrupt or Insolvent company and nothing is ever done to recover the money

Right in answer to the self to blame issue.

    1. The first I knew that there were issues with a house I had moved out of three years ago was when I had a letter from the bailiffs at my new address. At NO stage had anybody forwarded any mail to me about this, which I do find peculiar as all my other mail got forwarded by post office.

    2. I have already set up CT payments for the current address and am paying monthly and have done so for 3 years! The council has known that i lived here now for 3 years. Thanks minimum wagers, but I am paying my CT and not avoiding it as you suggest.

    3. When I first received the letters my first call was to the council to try to resolve and set up a payment plan but they refused saying it was down to the bailiffs, and if I didn't work with the bailiffs it would return to them for a final attempt to resolve.

Sure I have myself to blame for many things but the biggest one was saying I do to a guy who systematically robbed me blind, almost drove me to suicide, and who ended up taking 75% of my house in a divorce, oh and by the way to get a divorce I had to accept a lot of his debts. Maybe I deserve all I get for not sticking at a marriage like that... but hey ho I blame myself every minute of the day.

as this was from a previous address please get in touch the council and ask for the period the council tax arrears relate to

When you move out of a property in the middle of a financial tax year (April till march) and council tax are not informed that you have vacated the premises you will be charged for the remainder of tax year
I am not an expert I am self taught i have no legal training any information I post is based on my own personal experience and information gained from other web sites

If you are in any doubt please seek legal/expert advice help

Glad nothing untoward happened, its a bit like with DCA's or utility sales people or any other dodgy person you care to mention. As soon as they realize someone knows thier stuff (even a little bit) they back off and move onto the next mug who they hope they can fleece. There must be litereally millions made this way :(

I would just like to echo the sentiments about people who are not being constructive, you don't know anything about a persons circumstances, but even the brief info given here refers to bankruptcy so I'm guessing life hasn't been a breeze lately. There but for the grace of god go I. I'm not religious but can't sum it up any better than that.

BTW I typed this before Affluenza's last post, if its from previous years and personal responsibility was the issue the OP would've paid NOTHING as it would be wiped in bankruptcy. Amazing how blinkered people can be.

  • Thanks for the words of support - I can tell you that BR is a necessary evil, it is something that has taken me years to decide upon and it is the financial equivalent of swallowdiving from a skyscraper.

The amounts were never chased until now (to my knowledge) and in actual fact was not aware of any outstanding CT from 2006 in 2007 while I was still at the property. It makes zero sense to me that they would not chase the debt sooner, eg. if I owed money in 2006 why was it not chased that financial year?

I am planning to go BR 1st Dec, and it is not an easy decision as I guess most people in the same situation realise, but those who read the Sun and hear about spendthrifts who seem to use BR as a get out of jail clause will naturally make the assumption that we are all living lifestyles more in keeping with celebrity status than realising that people despite owning more are actually still in a form of poverty.

I don't have friendships, no relationships, don't drink, don't go out, occasional smoke, no entertainments, no television - my only real luxury is broadband. I made the decision not to form a relationship until I had money again as it would be irresponsible to involve a man I love in this level of sh i t.
