Advice - Car Dealer Wants to Pre-reg New Car order
Comments

Tell them they can pre-register it and you'll buy it in 3 months for lots less.
They want to give you a full tank of fuel and a bit off the odd service in exchange for taking a pre-registered car when you should be receiving a new one?
Ask the salesman/woman to get the Sales Manager or Dealer Principle to call you and ask if he/she is having a laugh!
Regardless of whatever spin they try and put on it - you are paying for a new car and getting a secondhand one. It is as simple as that!
Pre-reg cars are a great deal but the deal they are offering you is nothing less than plain ****.
Best of luck0 -
Yes my initial thoughts as well.
In terms of documentation what should I get from the dealer on the day I pick it up. Should I get the actual red coloured V5c or just a slip and the main document in the post within 7-10 days. How can I make sure that I am the first registered owner?
If it's a new car you won't get anything from the dealer on the day. The car will have been registered through an online AFRL system and the V5 will arrive in the post.
If the V5 is at the dealership something is amiss0 -

Ok told him no and reconfirmed that he had my details to register the car to me on the afrl.
Didn't say anything just will be back in touch once your car arrives no mention of any delay etc.
So we'll see what happens. I think he was trying it on to make more monet or hit an end of mmnth target.0 -
I used to work in a Main Dealership and the manufacturers will often offer a bonus to the Dealership for the number of cars they have registered. Perhaps this is what is going on here.0

It's usual end of quarter dealer tactics - Q3 ended on 30th September and they were trying to adjust figures, hit targets etc.
Now it's October it's Q4 so I'd doubt very much they try to change your deal again.
All the best0 -
Tell him to poke it, he is probably trying to get back some VAT, and you will be getting a used car.0

So how do you answer the question, "who is the registered keeper" without it effecting your insurance premium?
You simply tell them you have bought a new car, not an unusual situation, the Insurance company will expect you to register the car in your name or be expecting to recieve the logbook in due course.
Why do some people think that buying a car is complicated?0 -
This is a common ploy by unscrupulous online car brokers - manufacturers take a very dim view if they find out about it too. Get him to honour the original deal or tell him you want your deposit back and will be reporting them to the manufacturer.I'm confused on what your point is! I merely replied to a question about the ability to insure a car that wasn't registered in your name, ie, there is no requirement of insurance that you must be the registered keeper.
Lots of insurers include in their assumptions displayed when quoting online "You are the registered keeper of the vehicle"0
