Advice - Car Dealer Wants to Pre-reg New Car order
Hello first of all.
This is a strange one and never happened to me before so wanted to get some input from others.
Ordered a new car about 2 weeks ago and paid deposit etc. Told by dealer that ship carrying said vehicle would be landing in 2 weeks time.
So today i get a phone call from dealer offering a me a full tank of fuel (not really peaking my interest) and discounting servicing if I agree to have the car pre registered in their name for 3 months. Says this is an offer that the manufacturer has offered.
Sceptical me thinks that he is trying to pay less for the car and make more money or use to hit a monthly sales figure. I did manage to drive very good deal on the car but still less than what I could have got if buying from an online dealer who would source from a dealership and deliver to door.
Initial instinct is to say no and get it registered to me or really look to renegotiate price. Insurance worries as I know if you have an accident in the first 12 months they will look at book price if you are first registered owner.
Thanks

Tell him to get stuffed and honour the orginal order. There is absolutely no benefit to you in having the car pre-registered, unless he seriously drops the price. And for the record the manufacturer wont know anything about this at all, he's trying to pull a fast one which is why he'll need to keep it registered in his name for 3 months.0

The other thing is when you sell it, you can sell it as a one owner car and increase the price accordingly.
If he registers it, then you've lost that facility for ever.
I'd tell him to get stuffed unless he was going to sell it to me for a second hand price.

How would you insure a car registered to the dealer?
Tell him to get stuffed, either return deposit or stick to order.0 -
Yes my initial thoughts as well.
In terms of documentation what should I get from the dealer on the day I pick it up. Should I get the actual red coloured V5c or just a slip and the main document in the post within 7-10 days. How can I make sure that I am the first registered owner?0 -
You get the invoice from the dealer, I got nothing else.
Then the V5C followed in the post a few weeks later.0 -
Ok. Thats what I remebered. Is their anyway to confirm before money is exchanged hat I will be the first registered owner and if not what come back do i have? Can I reject the car and get a refund.0

Get them to write it on the invoice and sign it, if there is an issue at a later date then you can pursue for breach of contract.0

When you sign the paper work for the new car, write something on to the effect that you will reject the car if you are not the first registered keeper.
This sound like they are buying the car as a demonstrator, which they are not allowed to sell for 3 or 4 months. I think these cars are greatly discounted by the manufacturer in order for the dealer to use it as a demonstrator. It sounds like a scam to get a cheap subsidised car but still charge you for a new car. I'd tell them to get stuffed and tell them you will check with the manufacturer to make sure it's a good deal.
