    as Anew says,
dont give him or sign the V5,then it means its trickier for him to sell or then he has to pay £25 for another:rotfl:
And at which point I believe the DVLA sends a letter to the original keeper asking if they object

  • send the v5 to the dvla (but keep a copy) with a covering letter explaining that you no longer have the vehicle as it was taken from you, and that you request they update their records to show you no longer have any association with the vehicle.
If anyone then drives it on the road it will come up on th ANPR system as unregistered and be taken away from the driver

That would mean the father can register it in his name.

    It's dodgy either way.

Easiest thing to do would be to sign it over to him.

Just go round with the spare keys and take it back.
    She's the keeper, keep it.
  • If it's getting very nasty you could go the legal/Police route. V5 is proof of ownership and the car would be returned to her - leaving her father in the position of trying to prove it is his.

The V5 being in her name is key.

    Best of luck

A V5C isn't proof of ownership as previously posted by others. The registered keeper may not be the legal owner.

Our V5C system isn't like the pink slips system in the US.

Is it really worth losing a family over?

I think the father has done that already by merely taking the car. Just imagine being given a nice expensive gift by your Dad, only for him to turn around in 3 years time for him to ask for it back, and then when not given it back take an opportunity such as taking it for repair to get his hands on it.

    What absolute rubbish!

Where is your evidence to give such a definitive reply?

He bought the car and therefore will have sufficient proof of purchase.
