why do people buy new build homes?

Thankfully (!) everyone is different, so so what works for some people, is another person's idea of hell.
I'm firmly in the older property camp.0 -
My house was built in the 1600s and was "modernised" in the 1900s with more work being done in the 1970s. So yeah, it's old.
Advantages:
- It's massive
- It's detached
- It's beautiful
- It has character
- I have storage room coming out of my !!! in the house
Disadvantages:
- It can get very cold in the winter.
My parents' house was built in the 1320s, and modernised in the 1560s.

Amazing character
Can't see another house from any window in the place
4 outbuildings (guesthouse, stables, dairy, piggery)
Storage everywhere
