Yes, I've just checked mine also, and both the standard and the 'Bonus' amounts are showing there - which I've worked out are indeed equivalent to 1.00% and 1.85% respectively of the average daily balance since October 15th*.

*That's when Natwest say the bonus is being paid from for accounts opened on September 29 or 30

My Interest is showing also, I opened my Natwest a/c at end of September but didn't pay in the 1 pound until 6th Oct, but still got the bonus interest as well as the standard.
  • Finally able to withdraw money. 24 days after account opening by the time I got activation code, card reader, card, PIN, etc, etc...... Feel like I've run a marathon!

Spoke to NatWest today, confirmed my account opening date is 5th October - same date as the letter I received with A/C no, Sort Code etc. My ref. started 20100929. My Bonus Interest period will begin on 15th November, for 12 Months according to 'Laura'.

Faster Payments seems to be working great though. Instant in & out of Lloyds, and same day out to The AA until 15th November!

Better check this with somebody else then (although there is plenty of time now to do so) since, according to post #276, your reference implies that the bonus year actually run from 15th October 2010 to 14th October 2011 - not November. Maybe Natwest will agree to roll out one more month for you on account of their delays - so it's sensible to get something confirmed (preferably in writing) now rather than later.

Post #276 does nothing of the sort. It is only concerned with whether one gets a bonus or not. It does not mention when the bonus year starts or ends.

Having gone through all the rigmarole of applying online, waiting for an activation code in the post, going online again to register the activation code and choosing a PIN and password, ordering a card reader, waiting for same in the post, and receiving an online banking card, I'm now told by their helpline I cannot use the card reader until I receive in the post another PIN, to use with the card in the card reader, which is separate from the online banking PIN I chose two weeks ago. Since my second PIN appears to be several days late arriving in the post, they might have to cancel it and send me another in the post.

One of their letters states "Don't forget if you're unhappy with your choice of account you can cancel it within 14 days..." It has so far taken 3 weeks and I still can't operate it fully, and I'm still having to keep tabs on them and chase things up. I'd go for the Post Office or Nationwide's Mysave, but NatWest has worn down my resistance. Not sure I can face starting another "simply apply online" procedure at the moment.
  • I also applied for this account online before 20th October...........I was also sent a letter saying I did not opt for online banking.........I kept copies showing I did opt for it (how would on online account work otherwise)..........I eventually got the pin and customer number needed to activate the account but then was told I would need a card reader to move money out and a seperate pin.......and now it seems I can move money into my account without the card reader from my linked bank account but only up to a max of £10k a day.........and only move money out of the account (when card reader and seperate pin arrive) up to £10k a day:mad:

    What a palaver..............

The call centre cannot tell me if I qualify for the 2.89% until after the 15th Nov!!

There seems to be no way to deposit a larger lump sum into this account other than drip feeding it over a period of days!

Saving money has become very difficult recently it seems:(

Whilst Natwest have not made things easy for people opening this account, to be fair to them, the limit on transferring £10k into the account per day will be set by your bank (i.e. where you have your current account), and not by Natwest.

If it's a substantial amount, it would be worth considering whether it would pay to do a CHAPS transfer (normally costs around £25).

Remember that you'll be on 1% interest until 15th November, and should then move onto the full rate of 2.89% from 15/11/10 until 15/11/11.

Did you mean to say 1.85% or 1.89%?
