  • Applied more than 4 weeks ago. Received application to sign and post back. Already a customer. No further correspondence received nor is it showing up online.

    Disappointing.
  • Applied on the 7th of October, online. Am already an existing current account holder and online banker. BUT had to wait until paperwork was received.

Sent the paperwork last week - still no sign of the account on my online banking. Ridiculous.

I have just opened this account online. Compared to the NatWest fiasco it was a breeze. It took about ten minutes. ID checked electronically, initial deposit made by debit card, direct debit instruction to nominated account done. Specimen signature via downloaded form. Simples.

Meanwhile, 26 days after applying, I await means to withdraw my £1 from the NatWest account, and on 15th November I will qualify for the bonus. :(

in this thread. Bye bye NatWest...

Just for balance, I applied online for the account on 30th sept. The account appeared in my (admitedly pre-existing) online banking service on 1st Oct and I was able to transfer money in immediately via Faster Payments.

Once I realised I was not earning the bonus, I was able to transfer out immediately, again via FPs.

So whilst I deplore the misleading advertising about the bonus I have to say the account works fantastically once it is up and running.

Am an existing NatWest customer and I also opened mine on 30 Sept and transferred money into the a/c on 1st Oct. When opening the a/c I was told (during online chat) that I qualify for the bonus from 15 October so I have left my money in the a/c.

Nearly 2 weeks now since started trying to open this; opening cheque cashed last week. 2 letters today one saying account opened but also that I had "decided not to request online banking". Ehh????? Other letter said I had registered for online banking and they would send Activation Code in few days. Phoned to query and was told that I had opted out of online banking on the application form so couldn't have an esaver account. Spoke to supervisor who admitted there had been a mistake in the letters but that I didn't need to wait for Activation Code and could access account immediately through website. Excited to read there that I could "sign up and be online banking within minutes". Completed registration only to be told to await Activation Code!!!
Crass amateurs - give this one a miss.

Early days yet, my £1 went in on the 5th Oct, went through the same rigmarole as loads of others it seems, register for on-line, activation, phone up to try & remove money - can't without current account / card reader, order card reader & current account just in case, card reader arrived yesterday - HOORAY! Oh, no card to put in it! I've had a PIN though! But it's apparently for a card I've already received?????

Muppets, yes, but the muppets were mildly amusing.

I stupidly made the mistake of paying some savings I won't need for a while in already, so apparently won't be earning any worthwhile interest yet either. Very disappointed in NatWest. Never used them before. I'll think 8 times before using them again. Don't think even ICICI were this bad!

Advice - don't pay any more than £1 in until you're sure you're earning a decent rate, and you can get your money out. Oh, and don't think you can get it by 'phone - you can't, unless you have a current account with them!

I need some help. Probably a stupid question but I opened this a few weeks ago and put a £1 in to start it. But now the rate has changed is it a waste of time moving over a load of money I planned too or do I still get the higher rate as I opened it before the rate went down?

Yes you still get the bonus rate. The bonus rate will apply from 15 Nov 2010 to 15 Nov 2011.

As long as they received your application for the account before they closed it for the bonus (21st Oct or thereabouts) you will still get the quoted rate inc bonus for 12 months, but do read through the thread about when to start inputting cash into the account as the bonus is not paid immediately. :)

Standard interest and Bonus rate interest should now appear on the online banking.
