It is about time they made this thread into a sticky (Fermi..please can you arrange it with Martin?)
Trolls get everywhere - they populated another forum that I was on but eventually they got banned permanently and even their membership of the business group was ended so they couldnt attend meetings to dish their negativity there either.
Just passing through like tumbleweed......

PS. Did Clio ever return, did we ever find out what happened to him?0 -

Good evening everyone - hello Horace! Good to see you again! At least a troll on this thread means a troll not on anybody else's thread....pain in the neck as it may be.
Handy, when you've done Lady H's decorating I've got a few walls you can slap some whitewash over, just in case you get bored!One life - your life - live it!0 -
Hi all,
Hi Horace, how are you? long time no bumps. Nope Clio's never been back on NTN (or anywhere on MSE as far as I've seen).
Handy - another request for painting here if you get bored. Any tips on wallpaper removal (about 6 layers we think - its a friend's house).

Hi Tix, no easy way to remove wallpaper. Score well and use a steamer, Wicks do a good one for @ £20.00 it's cheaper than hiring and you can always sell it on afterwards. Steam well then a good sharp long reach scraper. I have one with replaceable blades, just watch out that you don't dig into the plaster.:eek: Lots of elbow grease required.:)
It's worth it in the end to get a good finish. I am guessing with 6 layers it's an old house so the plaster may not be perfect. If this is the case then rather than re-plaster, you may want to put a lining paper on before new wall paper. More info if needed.
Glad you asked now,:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Thanks for the tips, I think we have found a steamer to borrow.
Its only an early 70s house but think previous people may have been obsessive with decorating (I don't get it myself I only ever paint - I even painted over wallpaper in one room in my house i couldn't be bothered to remove it!). Only good news is low walls/ceiling.
I have a horrid feeling that the walls won't be in good nick though, hoping she may get away with a bit of filler for a couple of holes but might need more work than that - needs to be cheap solutions though!
Will ask again if we need more info and tips. Cheers.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
