Good [STRIKE]Evening[/STRIKE] Morning all. Busy Sunday for Handy, Re-Wire Loft. Fix sockets in porch, Defrost the freezers, easy just left the contents in the shed. Still frozen solid after 8 hours, just like the water pipes. Clean Oven. Time now for a snifter before bed.:j
Oh how I hope one day things will get normal [STRIKE]boring[/STRIKE].
Take care in the Morning, and though it's not a money saving thing, Sod the Leccy bill. It's important to stay warm, if we all have to make payment arrangements they can't cut us all off. It would be like putting a noose round their own necks.
Handy could tell tales about the old C.E.G.B (Central Electricity Generating Board) days and all the Management fiddles and back handers. Alegedly :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
I have no reason to think that things are much different today.
Signing off now, regards all.

Do tell us more Handy! Intriguing!
I'm just back from the library, where I've supposedly been studying for my postgrad! (Really I was trying not to fall asleep as I read ever more complicated acedamic papers on stuff! I hate stats! I don't care about the method. I don't really understand if it's "empirically sound". I just want to know what your talking about in plain English.) Any-one seen the Friends episode where Pheobe memorises the title of one of Ross's papers to "throw" into conversation? That's what I've really been doing!
ANyway, time to wind down a bit before bed. Getting up for work tomorrow is going to be fun! :cool:Jan10: 28,315.81 Jan11: 18,015.32 Jan12: 7,682.58 Jan13: 2,987.73 Current debt: 1,225.55

Hi Nicca, in a former Life (allegedly) I was responsible for meeting (under orders of my MD) Managers or MD's of several large ([STRIKE]National or Multi National[/STRIKE] Firms, and giving them a Xmas Box. In those days I was a Nieve Business Virgin, and was told it was best to meet them in a layby on the A1, so that other staff wouldn't get jealous. I found out later that the Diary, Box of Wine or Case of Whisky would normally contain a bung running into thousands. This ensured we would get the next contract.
Usually this cash would go into an alleged :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: slush fund to pay for the mangers of power stations to go on all expenses paid holidays, School fees for their kids, extensions on houses Etc.
All the big companies were at it. They would agree which contacts to go for. Competitors would price themselves out at the tendering stage.
For example if the contract was worth 6M. My customer would quote 6.5. The other firms would quote 7M + In return my customer would price themselves out of the next job. My main client would turn over nearly 70M PA. Work out the sums involved.
The extra 500K went in bungs to ensure the next contract and to pay directors bonuses. My own boss used to do a similar thing with our customers to get our contracts.
The guys now running our power generation industry were all just starting when Handy got out of the whole sorry mess. Let's hope things have altered.
As a PS, My MD put the company into overnight bankruptcy when his mate who was MD of our biggest client got 3 years for fraud. He is still living in Spain (allegedly):D
I can't understand why the Government of the time didn't make a big thing out of this, instead they privatised the industry and let us buy shares, which to this day have had poor returns. Even though this week
The pundits recon they are making £90 profit per UK household.
Nuff ranting, Sorry Nicca but you did ask.
Cheers, Handy.:DMother Nature Don't Draw Straight lines, We are Broken Moulds in Life's Grand Design, We look a Mess but we're doing fine,
