New Laptop?

Are you joking? Please don't recommend anything without a full warranty here.
New or as new with a 12 month warranty is what is expected.
Since when has that been the norm? Someone looking for a budget laptop, say for less than £250 can't expect brand new or 'as new'. The laptop I've linked to, although not new, is refurbished. It comes with an up to 6 month warranty - longer than most 2nd hand high street retailers offer.Otherwise it will just turn into a free for all, with everyone trying to advertise their old rubbish.
Yep, I'm sure that's going to happen.I'd give a mate £100 for that old dog, at the most. It's really just an old piece of junk.
Your mate isn't selling it, or otherwise he'd have to be as thick as two short planks to unload it for a ton. 2nd hand eBay prices are easily £200.
It's from a business seller with almost 12,000 feedback ratings.
I've not posted on this thread to argue. If you don't like my comments, ignore them or become a board guide. The quickest way to become a millionaire is start off as a billionaire and go into the airline business.

Don't get upset. We are all allowed to post our opinions, within reason.
Mine is that it's a piece of old junk and that I wouldn't pay more than £100 for it.
The battery is going to be shot, the screen is the old square matt style, it looks old, Windows 7 will another expensive addition.... why would someone pay £245 for that?!? I just don't understand your thinking.
All I'm trying to do is to contribute to people getting good value from their scarce resources. Not getting people to buy up old rubbish just because it's within their budget.
Two days ago, I could have linked to an 'as new' Toshiba for £238 with the usual 7 day no quibble return policy and a 12 month warranty. Just sold out.
Don't feel offended. It's nothing personal.
I would only go your route if the budget was £100 to £150.0 -
Hi all!
Am thinking of getting a new laptop <£400. I will be losing my desktop (donating to family - recycle bonus!) and have a PS3 so gaming needs are satisfied.
Could anyone give some recommendations? Mainly be used for internet, multimedia and working. Wouldn't mind something a bit lightweight (last one I had weighed a ton) and not too loud.
Any input would be greatly appreciated!
Coeus.
...What, exactly, does multimedia mean? Just watching DVDs and flash video, maybe putting together the odd film?
It's an old theme of mine, but an oldish laptop with a lightweight OS (like certain Linuxes) would do just fine.
The only issue is that old laptop batteries are a bit weak, but they can easily be renewed.0 -

By multimedia I mainly mean video's, music, internet and other applications. Not Bluray reader however, need dealt with through my PS3!
I would like a lightweight laptop but Windows operating system is an essential.
Thanks for your input! I'm still searching for the best deal (keeping up-to-date on HotUKDeals too!).Hope For The Best, Plan For The Worst0 -
Hi guys
hope you dont mind me hijacking this thread.
My dad has recently completed a silver surfers course at teh local library and is now desperate to try out his knowledge on a regular basis.
He is after a laptop which he will just use for internet surfing, word processing etc, nothing too technical.
Trouble is his budget is £200 and I have told him I am struggling to find him anything at this price. I've looked on all the websites mentioned here but nothing so far. I've asked him to increase his budget and offered to contribute as his xmas pressie.
I've been looking at these but are they too good to be true?
http://shop.ebay.co.uk/newandusedlaptops4u/m.html
I am feeling more clueless than him about buying a laptop. Hard drives etc mean nothing too me so I don't know a good deal if I see opne anyway. What are these netbooks I keep reading about? Would one of them be better for him?
Also, he has no landline or Sky so I figured he would have to get a mobile dongle stick? Is that best? How exactly do they work? Do you put money on them in a PAYG sort of way?
Sorry if these questions have been asked a million times before but I'm seriously stumped.
Any advice much appreciated.0 -

Well I'm honestly not sure. He doesnt have the best eyesight and I worry a netbook would be too difficult for him. I think he genuinely thinks he can get a decent laptop for £200, he hasn't shopped around at all and that is a huge amount of money for him so he doesn't see why not? He has asked me to find him something for that price (i.e can you not ask your friends if they are selling one for £200?) I'm finding it all very frustrating.
I honestly don't know enough about netbooks to make a decision. It's just the size that concerns me. I guess if they are good enough for internet browsing etc then there's no reason why not, providing he can see it.0 -
Netbooks are just small laptops, with less processing power ,meaning that they are a little slower and don't handle graphics that well, certainly no games other than the simple flash net games.
I am thinking a refurb laptop might be the way to get one close to the £200 mark, refurbs sometimes have a little cosmetic scratch, but still work perfectly.
As for size they are usually 10 inch screens and have a 92% full size keyboard. Laptops are usually 13inch + with alot at 15.4 inches.Survey earnings total 2009 £417, 2010 £875, 2011 £5740 -
