Ebay asking me to register as buisness seller

after reading all posts, guess I just have to hold back on selling any clothes for now and hope to be the first exception
If you've already got the 'upgrade' email then it's too late.
It does seem hard when all you are doing is trying to declutter a house (and I'd pay someone to come and declutter mine as it is getting out of hand) but it never hurts to put your case to ebay. Out of interest though could you please update the thread if you are succesful , or not, my survey is not very scientific but I would be interested in hearing if anyone has ever got the 'you must upgrade' email and then persuaded ebay to change their mind.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I had big collections of toys, CD's, DVD's, VHS...then all the old clothes/shoes from over the years
"Collectables" sellers - or more accurately, sellers of collections - are those eBay seem to be now targetting, as it's difficult from their end to tell what's going on. I still think they are barking up the wrong tree sometimes, but it's something they are taking seriously, so I'm not sure there is a way round this.
But as Soo says, successfully appealing would be great - good luck with that."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

I'd sell my personal colleciton of sci fi items, unfortunately I suspect it is now all but worthless.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I got the email and phoned them a couple of times and sent a couple of lengthy emails and didn't get it overturned. A lot of the items I was selling were ebay purchases that didn't fit and they could have checked that out. It doesn't seem as though they will be persuaded.0 -

Thank you for adding back to the thread. It is useful when we get questions in future.

I utilised both the free listing weekend opportunities to relist everything left previously unsold, taking the opportunity at face value. I sold maybe 12 items last time and (so far) have bids on only 2 ...don't laugh! :embarasse
So far, despite relisting 50+ items each time, no 'upgrade to business' email has arrived. Clearly, there must be a 'trigger' for these emails: perhaps it's the number of sales that counts, rather than the number of lisitngs? So selling 100 promo DVDs on 100 listings for 99p each results in an email, whilst selling a single item for £99 avoids it?"The secret of life is honesty and fair dealing.
...If you can fake that, you've got it made."

What do you normally sell? Looking at the people who get emails, they seem to upload a collection of similar individual items (e.g. knitting patterns, loads of clothes, collectable magazines, nearly new music scores and so on) rather than just loads of bric-a-brac.porto_bello wrote: »I utilised both the free listing weekend opportunities to relist everything left previously unsold, taking the opportunity at face value. I guess I would qualify as bric-a-brac. I have 6-8 items each in half a dozen different categories. The starting prices vary from £2 to £200. On the last free listing weekend, the only notable item I sold was a painting and the rest were £5-£10 items, mainly DVDs. Essentially, I'm trying to shift the last of my clutter, simply listing each for the minimum price I would be willing to see it go for. What do you normally sell? Sounds like eBay aren't targetting genuine people with lots to sell, only people who try to sell large collections or loads of one specific kind of item.porto_bello wrote: »I guess I would qualify as bric-a-brac. Shame, as when I did sell stamps and whatnot, I knew I fell within the non-trade guidelines, but I guess it's so hard to tell from the outside.
Good luck, by the way. I wish I still had some stuff for sale, got tons of books, I hope I can set up on Amazon as would be a better place for some of those items."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4
