Well they responded to my email in a typically vague manner...
Unfortunately, this was necessary for technical reasons. This was an extraordinary circumstance that could not have been avoided, even if all reasonable measures had been taken.

My letter has asked for a full and detailed explanation of the technical issue, so hopefully they should expand a bit more in response to that! (although it wouldnt surprise me if they dont).
  • UPDATE:

Easyjet have paid all my expenses (apart from travel), but still refuse to pay compensation.

My insurance have confirmed i am covered for legal costs, so we are proceeding with solicitors.

I spoke to the AUC, they said I need to speak to the Spanish National Enforcement Body as the flight was from Spain.
  • UPDATE 2:

Solicitors have responded thinking we have a valid case and are pursuing EasyJet for a valid reason for cancellation.

Great that you have got insurance cover for this and you'll miss out on the lovely correspondence from their lovely solicitors.

    UPDATE 3:

Easyjet have PAID OUT IN FULL following the issue of court proceedings on them.

I suggest anyone who thinks they are owed compensation from Easyjet to look into holiday insurance cover, and dont give up! They WILL pay out.

Thankyou everyone for the help and advice.

Do you know if there was a preliminary hearing and/or full hearing or didn't it go that far?

To my knowledge didnt go that far. We signed and sent official court proceedings papers and they agreed to pay up a few weeks later.
