Hotel Recommendation for San Francisco?

Check out Priceline.
FW is tacky and touristy-don't bother
I agree on both points.
With regard to Fishermans Wharf - think of the worst English seaside town, add Americans and you won't be far off!
I have stayed at the Marriott (there are two - can't remember which one!) and the Grand Hyatt - I prefer the Marriott but would happily recommend either.Gone ... or have I?0 -
I heard they'd left...didn't realise it was for good. That's sad...for all they stank it was nice to see them lying around on those pallettes.
We stayed at the Westin St. Francis on Union Square when we were there.:p
The good thing about FW is the city tours leave from there, along with the Ferry to Alcatraz, the highlight of our trip there, and a must-do ( along with hanging from the side of a cable car) fwiw I didn't think FW was that bad!Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

op said visiting family and wanted hotel recommendation near FW so why people are slagging FW is beyond me,they did not ask for opinions on FW.Maybe the family live near FW hence the reason for wanting hotel near there or they would of asked for union square recommendations.
there is no way i would compare it to one of the crap english sea side towns if that was the case why would so many people visit??
the sea lions have started coming back aswell now it is a bit of a mystery why they went probably looking for food source due to high numbers of sea linos that were there.
as said previously look on trip advisor at holiday inn reasonable rates, good location and clean.0 -
Yes relatives live near FW so thats why I initially said there but have looked at all the recommendations, many thanks for those, and the OH will have the final say when I get full list of hotels together!
Thanks again.0 -

We stayed at Best Western Tuscan Inn Fisherman's,,,, hotel gets good reviews on Trip Advisor
Enjoy your trip!"Do not look back and grieve over the past, for it is gone, and do not be troubled about the future, for it has yet to come. Live in the present, and make it so beautiful that it will be worth remembering"0 -
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

I loved the Fisherman's Wharf area of the city. We also stayed in the Holiday Inn Express (twice) as it is newer and much nicer than the Holiday Inn next door.
I know you didn't ask for info on the area but after reading some of the negative comments on here I felt I had to mention that FW is in a great location for everything - loads of places to eat/nice shops on the pier/close to ferry for Alcatraz etc.
You could never in a million years compare it to any seaside town in the UK!!!!
Have a great trip.
I used to have a life............................... before MSE!!0 -

Highly recommended - check Tripadvisor.
We have booked to stay there in November. The tripadvisor reviews are worth reading if only for the manager's replies to the poor reviews which are a hoot. I am looking forward to staying there0
