Police officer said I had ticket and then drove off without issueing one!
I was driving without a seatbelt, and I stopped to let through a police car. He pulled up beside me and I opened my window. He said "No seat belt, fixed penalty ticket for £60". He then drove off.
I waited about 3 minutes because I thought he was going to turn around and come back, but he didn't, so I just drove on (with my seatbelt on!).
I'm not whether this was a warning, a ticket done automatcically, or even worse, that he might have come back 5 or so minutes later to issue a ticket, and found me gone.
Please help

I think in this situation, you got VERY lucky. The police man may have had other more important things to deal with and just said that to scare you a little.
If you were issued a ticket, he would have given you it there and then.
Don't be foolish though and wear a seat belt, it'll save your life, however inconvenient you think it may be.We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

You are one lucky (if not silly for not wearing a seat belt) person.

Agree with Elky. My friend got stopped by the Police for speeding in a 30 mph zone. I was the passenger in the car. The copper was about to write a ticket when an urgent call came over the radio. The copper said to my friend that he was lucky this time and legged back to his car.The man without a signature.0

Thanks for all your advice. Still not sure whether this could be done electronicially using the number plate. But I will certainly use a seat belt in the future.0

I may be wrong but I think they have to issue the ticket there and then for it to be legal.
If he was going to take it further, he wouldn't just shout to you through his window.. he would ask for your name, address etc as you may not have be the owner of the vechicle. We’ve had to remove your signature.
