Another spend for us - £5.34 at Mr A. That really should be everything for a few days, else we have no chance of making it to the end!
Must get organised and rejoin grocery challenge!

No grocery shopping yesterday so still the one total from the big monthly shop. Dont need anything today, and hopefully until about wednesday when we will need milk. Have done a lot of planning and list making this morning so should - on paper - be within the amount this month.
    Every days a School day!
  • Hi everyone,
just caught up with posts. This thread sure is popular and it is taking me longer to read everytime I find time to log on.
Welcome to all the newbies, hugs to those of you who are having a hard time(for whatever reasons) and thanks to everyone who posts advice, tips or recipes.

Oct budget still untouched. Did need eggs and milk yesterday but my sister gave me them and would not take payment.

Making lamb chops, potato wedges, cauliflower and peas today for dinner. I buy the lamb from my local butchers and it is delicious so really looking forward to it.

Had planned to take stew out of freezer for tomorrow night but have just been invited out for a chinese meal so stew will keep for another day.

Have also been given a huuuuge bag of the most beautiful cooking apples.:D So I will be stewing and freezing them for later in the winter, I love Eve's pudding and crumble.

Hope you all have a frugal week.
It takes a long time to eat an elephant and I'm doing it a bite at a time!!!
  • Hi everyone. Thank you for the warm welcome and all the supportive comments. This thread is brilliant and I'm picking up some great ideas.

I get paid on the 24th so I'm already two big shops into the month. Total spent so far is £112.53 so I really have to rein myself in for the next couple of weeks!

Its my day off today, the house is clean and all the ironing's been done. Should I put a box of hair colour I bought yesterday on my hair.........or do some cooking? I have some cooking apples from my brother's garden crying out to be made into a crumble :)

I'll do both.........that wayI'll have nice hair AND a fridge full of food.

Enjoy what's left of the weekend.

where do you get the coconut from? I think the one i got from sainsbugs was around 89p ish

I get the blocks out of sainsbugs, they right on the bottom shelf, not sure if its the same where you are but in M'boro its next to the sacks of basmati rice and gaza sunflower oil.

If not look in B & M and home bargains, they sell it quite cheap as well.

I can sooooooo understand where you're coming from with this.

DS left for Uni at the start of the month, and I lost CTC, WTC, CB, WPA and his dependants pension at the same time - which total up to 52% of my gross income and considerably more than that of my nett income :(

Good grief and I was feeling sorry for myself! :o You've just reminded me that I need to tell the CB people! The reason I tend to dip in and out is that I can get really quite obsessive and end up suicidal (figuratively) if I don't make the sometimes quite unrealistic targets I set myself, so I am going to try taking baby steps this time in the hope that I can make it work without feeding the family on gruel :rotfl:

I was about to post my new month spends when I realised that it is now October hence I have spent the last 12 months on the GC.

I have kept a spreadsheet with all my totals and I can tell you that over the last year my grocery expenditure has HALVED!!!

This is mainly thanks to the great ideas and the support I have found in this thread, so I thank you all wholeheartedly

    Thank You!

At the cost of seeming to contradict myself, I also want to say that this month I will not be publishing my totals on the board. I'm doing this to "test" myself (i.e., can I be self-disciplined enough by myself, if that makes any sense -but I shall keep on reading this thread for fear that the complete cold turkey treatment may be a step too far!). Fingers crossed, see how it goes... :A
