Went shopping yesterday for my big beginning-of-the-month stock-up shop. Took advantage of all the relevant offers, and spent £101.94 so that leaves me with £148.06 for the rest of the month. I have bought all the meat/fish/tins of tuna etc for the main meals for the month on the plan, as well as UHT milk, loo roll, baking ingredients and some fresh fruit and veg - didn't buy much veg as we have freezers full!! The top-ups during the month will be for lunchbox-suitable fruit, carrots, maybe some cheese but I bought a load last month so it might last....especially if I grate it and hide it in the freezer! Feeling hopeful that I might manage to stay within the budget this month.

    Hi everyone,

On the subject of coconut milk I too have switched to the powder - bought some in an asian supermarket on my last trip to Bradford - and am now a total convert.

However I do still have some dinky cans of coconut cream I bought in Waitrose - they were 76p I think and I got them cos they worked out cheaper than the milk as I figured I'd use less and they have been great too.

Hope you don't mind if I jump back on the bandwagon? I tend to dip in and out of the challenge but my daughter has just gone to University and we've lost the wftc so it's a double whammy! Christmas is coming (don't all shoot me) and we have my husbands accountant's fees to pay at the end of the month so time to get serious :)

I can sooooooo understand where you're coming from with this.

DS left for Uni at the start of the month, and I lost CTC, WTC, CB, WPA and his dependants pension at the same time - which total up to 52% of my gross income and considerably more than that of my nett income :(

    Hi all,

Well had my first 2 spends of £16.49, we had run out of flour, cheese, well the basics. Prob need to buy more milk todays as we only have about a 1 1/2 pints left and the boys drink it.

On Thursday i'm planning on doing a big shop when tax credits come through going to stock up on flour, pasta, tins etc as everythings running low to nil and the next few months are going to be harder than ever.

Coconut milk / powder etc. I buy the powder as it works real;ly well. But i also use the blocks of coconut for 59p and you can use as little or as much as you like. It works out about 15p for the equivalent amount for a large tin.
