Just finished our last shop for October and came in slightly over budget. So not to bad.

Had a much cheaper shop this week thanks to the GC if I hadn't been watching my budget Id have probably gone and spent a full weeks shop with out thinking about it.

Please can you put me down for £260please for November (23rd Oct to 23rd Nov)
Goal - We want to be mortgages free :j

I just have to congratulate you on how well you're doing mongmoney :T

.......I on the other hand am not doing so great this month.

Spends today of £10.36 bringing this months total so far to £238.77 leaving me with £36.23 to last me until and including the 31st, which equates to £4.02 per day for the next 9 days, which doesn't sound too bad, until you realise that £4.02 buys you sod all!

It's really messed me up this month only doing the one big online shop, which I forced upon myself by doing such a big one at the beginning of the month....I wont be making that mistake again!!

Unless £ilds have chicken thighs on offer this weekend, I should be looking at 2 NSDs if the milk lasts - I've bought 33L so far this month....33L!

  • Our month ends tomorrow and should come in under budget, but thats only because we have no food in until the shoping comes tomorrow and we had spend and save vouchers. The freezer and cupboards are literally empty and tomorrows monthly shop is expensive! Hope Ive spent visely as its a tough month weve got an overdrawn fee to pay as well as birthdays.

good luck everyone as the end of the month appears xx

Just reporting October GC total at £120.49 thats 49p over I have shocked myself!:j Don't know if this is the place but me and DH need to have a rethink re our finances. Our Mortgage goes up in November by £150.00 a month! :eek:and am sure a lot of you lovely people here could advise us where to post a SOA to see if we could get costs down in other ways. Am really frightened as DH job may not be as secure as we thought If this Govenment have their way ie Privatisation, just wish we could have more time to pay debts off before this may happen. Sorry for the moan folk. On a brighter note I am off work for a week next week so looking forward to lots of OS cooking/cleaning and preparing for winter, am I sad or what but at least its cheap and will keep me out of the shops.:rotfl:

    Hi savvyshe,

Fantastic on the budget, well done! :T You can find a brilliant tool to work out your SOA over on the Debt Free Wannabe board. And if you post it up on there lots of kind people will offer you advice. Just a thought though, is there anyway you could get a better deal on a remortgage? I'll pop over later and see if you've posted. Good luck with it.

Hi all, I am doing terrible with my budget:( but honestly dont think it's all my fault, budget has always been tight but each week I seem to be able to buy less and less with it:( thing is its got to work there is no more money to increase it! And on that note I need to use your great minds of knowledge I have had a phone call this morning from a friend that works on a farmers market and have been offered several chicken carcasses (the farmer finds jointed chickens sell better than whole) and a pigs head:eek: actually was offered 3 pigs heads but thought one would be daunting enough! All ideas welcomed:D

Ok huxley, I couldn't tell you the recipe but when I was a kid there was always pigs head being cooked and made into 'brawn'. Amazing I can smell it as I type! It becomes a cold meat that is then sliced and used in sarnies, salads and any other way you like. I'm sure if you google it you'll find a recipe. I'll dig out my older cookbooks and see if I can find one too.

    Hi Everyone

Want to DECLARE OCTOBER BUDGET AT £450 - took my eye off the ball somewhat! Have been buying extra bits for X**s and some gifts which are included in that amount so not all bad!
PLEASE PUT ME IN NOVEMBER FOR £375. We have been away and had friends over so that bumped the shopping up but do need to try harder.

Have a good weekend everyone, take care,
    nmlc

Nmlc, I don't count X**s things in my GC but do keep a record of them separately. Or did you allow for them in your budget for this month? If you didn't you could always identify them and record separately. Just a thought. I don't think that's a bad total really if you've got gifts in it too! ;)

    Welcome wmf!

Hugs Long Tall Sally, :grouphug: I wish I knew what to advise. If you don't mind me saying, it does strike me that you shop very often but I also realise how busy, full and sometimes unpredictable (i.e. how many mouths you have to feed :wall:) your life is from your previous posts. We don't meal plan as such but I do have a thing about lists as you will have seen! :rotfl: And also like you we don't batch cook but do you ever get a chance to stocktake what you have in before you go shopping? It may help in not only restricting your spend (because you know you don't need it/it's in the cupboards/fridge/freezer) but also ensuring you know what staples you do need avoiding the having to go shopping again and putting more than necessary in the trolley. Ooh, having said that I just remembered another tip if you're going in for just one item such as milk or carrots. Don't get a trolley! If you only have a basket on your arm (the most uncomfortable things in the world! :p) you may not get tempted into chucking things into it as they get so heavy so quickly. It's just a thought and I hope it may help a little. Chin up and stick with us LTS. :)

I didn't go and do the shopping today as planned as went with DD to find a car for her to buy. But unfortunately no NSD as we did need a few things so OH got them. I haven't had the totals from him yet so will update later or tomorrow.

Well it's the home run and all downhill now! Well done for keeping the pledge and over or under you can guarantee your spend is less than if you weren't doing the challenge. So give yourself a pat on the back, chins up and on we go. :D

    Take care,
    Spigs

Thought today would be a no spend but just spent 20p on a reduced loaf of bread (i really do love my reduced bargains!).
I want to get the 2 for £2 activia pouring yogurt from sainsburys tomorrow, but we'll see how it goes. I can only handle a couple of tablespoons a day of yoghurt but a spoon on some fruit and oats is so tasty!

If I'm only going in for a couple of bits I don't even bother with a basket ;)

I've also stopped picked up a basket on days I go down for final Whoopsies - I've discovered this is making me think more about whether I really need/will make use of/have space in the freezer for things before I pick them up..... and if there's a fair bit that passes all those criteria I dash back for a basket (only a small store, so doesn't take long - and as I work there I can actually get away with dumping what I've already picked up in a 'safe' place while I dive back for it)
