Hi,

Just got my MOT done and the garage guys told me that the rear break pads are 80 % worn, and as far as I can remember its almost 2.5 years since I've done anything with the breaks.

All I want to know is the pricing and the best place to get it serviced. Mine is a Ford Mondeo zetec 01 reg Saloon. I've got diff quotes starting from £80 to £150. I've no clue what to do with these quotes...as I'm totally a newbie when it comes to cars. So I'm hoping to hear from you guys...thanks

    Not even a routine inspection?....
You really need to get your act together and find yourself a competent independent workshop or mechanic you trust and get the vehicle properly serviced especially the brakes at least once a year.

Those quotes you had are grossly inflated prices, really £20-£25 for the pads from a motor factor or eBay, and the same for someone to fit it, it takes 10-15 minutes to do both sides, if you friendly with a taxi driver ask where they go, they certainly don't spend the amounts you've been asked.
Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?

    Sorry couldn't resist :o:o
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed
  • £48 from me if you don't want a receipt ;)

£80 isn't that bad, £150 is "silly money" though.

I highly doubt there are many out there who can do both sides in ten minutes!

    Book time is 36 minutes.

I'm based in Basildon. And ford quoted me 140 just for the rear pads, I don't know many places here the only other place I've tried was Nationwide n they r terrible.

The response from this thread was amazing and I've cancelled my booking with ford. But how do I find out a good I independent garage? Please send me a link or names that I need to look for. Thanks again for the comments

I'd just take it anywhere to be honest, it's a pad change, you'd have to be going some to get it wrong.

Mobile mechanics are always forgotten, but you might find it a lot cheaper to get a bloke with a tatty old Escort van round and do them on your driveway. Either that or ask your friends and relatives, you mind find somebody who'd be willing to change them for a few beers, it's really not rocket science.....

    ...or buy a Haynes manual:T

In defense (!?) of Ford, the pads will be considerably dearer as they are OE, I'd wager the padset is around £50-£60 retail.

    Regards,
    Andy
