Hi Tekie
What they mean with regards to the wheel nuts is that moisture has caused the coating on the nuts to lift - this means that it can be very difficult to fit a brace/socket over the top of them to remove them - so if you got a puncture you would probably find that the brace in the boot wouldn't fit. It's a common problem with Fords as on many models they use two-piece nuts and water penetrates in between the parts.
I'd replace them ASAP for peace of mind. Any motor spares shop should be able to supply them, or try a scrapyard (though do inspect second hand ones carefully to ensure the threads are not stripped and the nuts aren't swollen again - as you say you are new to cars I would advise you to buy new nuts to avoid having the same problem again).
I hope this helps you :-)Would LOVE to win:

Regarding the brake pads, rear pads are typically harder to do than front ones, as the pistons in the calipers require winding back in order to fit the new, obviously thicker pads in, as opposed to front brakes (apart from on large Citroens, which isn't relevant here of course!) whereby you just have to squeeze the pistons in the calipers back, thus saving time. 10-15 minutes is nigh on miraculous!0 -

The latter I have personal experience with, from my time in the motor industry for example a chip in the N/S wing mirror housing to name one.....I suppose a spider might get in, but that's all! As far as the former goes, I've never known nuts to swellalthough maybe that's just me.

What? The bit about this being unnecessary, or about unnecessary stuff in general?
