Funnily enough I did an annual budget this week!
My car expenses were £2,400+. This includes petrol (roughly 1000 miles a month), tax, MOT, service, maintenance, cleaning, parking, and insurance but mine was £450 odd. Reckon you might be looking at at least double that at your age! :think:0 -
WOW, expensive.0

Alot more than I realised!
How many miles are you looking to do each month?
What sort of car are you looking at/got?
Is this your first car?0 -
As Scouser said above we need a few more details to give you any sort of estimate. If you buy a 1 litre Fiesta it will be slightly cheaper than a 2.5 Impreza.0

I fed my daughters details into confused.com yesterday. For a 17 yr old, prov license in a 1998 micra 1000,the quotes came back between £390 and £1049. Peoples Choice and Budget were the cheapest.0

My car running costs are the same as SS. Excluding the car finance I spend £293 a month pro rata insurance, petrol, road tax, service (no MOT's cars too new!) = £2,400 a year.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 092

Just had a look at MS Money to see what I've spent over the last 12 months - I've had no unusual expenses, and do about 12,000 miles a year. Total cost for the year: £3718, or £310 a month.
Alright, that's partly my fault for driving a hideously impractical and thirsty car, but it is fun! I do, in the best MoneySaving tradition, spend as little as possible on it, subject to it being safe.
Using tyres as an example, I pay well under 50% of what Kwik-Fit want for the Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres I use. However, I won't try and save more by using a set of retreaded Bloggo-brand tyres, even if they are 50% as cheap again - those four tiny patches of rubber are the only thing between you and a tree, after all.0 -
The largest cost for an 18-year old will be insurance which can cost £1000 more for a boy than a girl.
For a girl I'd say
Price of car - £800
Insurance - £400
Tax, MOT - £150 (assuming small car)
Petrol - (5000 miles at 40mpg at £4pg) - £500
Maintenance - £400
AutoAid or similar - £40
...which comes to £2290
Alow £50 per week and you shouldn't be far out.Can I help?0 -
My insurance for a 1 litre aged 18 was £1,100 and I'm female.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 092

I just want a cheap reliable car, low maintenance to go around london, I'm not sure which yet. I have been given a budget of around £5000 for a car. I think I want a toyota yaris, volkswaggen or a cheap ford or BMW...Obviously I will change my mind.
Does anyone know where I can search for a cheap car with the related maintenance costs etc?
I'd say maybe about 50 miles a month?
