Does anyone know where I can search for a cheap car with the related maintenance costs etc?
I'd say maybe about 50 miles a month?
Thanks
Not really an expert of models and stuff but I would say that a £5k car will probably be quite pricey to insure!
Wouldn't go for anything more than a 1.3 though! Will be cheaper for insurance, petrol and tax!0 -
Quick idea, im male, aged 17 I got insured on a group 7 car for £1800 a year and at the moment I am paying around £100 in petrol a month (I do 40-50 miles/day working).
My car is a Toyota, that holds up well in crashes, easy to get spare parts for and is classified as a low theft risk which is why insurance was so cheap, a 17-18 year old male will NOT get insurance for less then £1k on his own name0 -
Insurance £900-1900
Petrol = miles*3.5/40 (roughly?)
Servicing = £500+ is a safe budget imo, taking into account tyres, repairs, etc. Less if you DIY but then you need to buy some tools which is quite a hefty outlay at first.
Breakdown = £8/month (tip: if you drive fairly far from home, make sure you go with one that has no tow limits! Cost me £80 recently for two tows back home after work as they had a 10 mile limit).
Tax £120 a year, depends what you get..
MOT (going up) so £50 a year.
Plus anything you need to pay back for the car in the first place.
Also will need to start saving for your second car at some point.
Yaris is reliable. You can look at the car reliability index which shows you reliability of cars, repair costs when they go wrong, etc. Maintenance costs vary on area. Go into the local Toyota dealer and ask tbh. Some have fixed prices on the wall if you're lucky. Others should be able to give you a rough cost.
Seat Ibiza or Skoda Fabia are good cars as well. VW are overpriced and have dodgy electrics imo. Skoda and Seat are lower insurance groups despite having the same engine as VW!matched betting: £879.63
