ESA medical - 3rd time lucky!

I posted a while ago that my ds had to undergo a medical for ESA, well the saga continues!
We went for the first medical and there were 3 people in the waiting room ahead of us, we were told that they had already been there an hour!
Ds panicked slightly as he hadn't brought any medication with him but we resigned ourselves to a bit of a wait. After an hour and a quarter the security guard (not the receptionist) came in and apologised to the two men (my ds and another) who were still waiting, one doctor had reached his quota and gone, the other was on his quota so wouldn't be doing anymore so one of them would have to go home! The other bloke (who'd been there when we arrived) refused to go anywhere so, as we were second and ds hadn't got his medication with him (I know he was supposed to but he'd forgotten in!) we said we would go. They made another appointment for him (for today) and off we went.
Fast forward to today, we were called only 5 minutes after the appointment time so were really pleased, we were seeing a Nurse Practitioner. Ds began giving her his medical history and within a few minutes she stopped him, because he had pre existing medical conditions she couldn't continue and he'd have to see a doctor, of course there wasn't on on today! So, cue appointment number 3:mad:
Hopefully it will be 3rd time lucky but the stress certainly isn't doing him any favours!
Don't expect any help as there isn't anything anyone can do, just needed a rant really.
Btw he hadn't filled in their medical form as it never arrived at our home and when we asked them to send it they just booked the original appointment.

  • Hello, when you said he had a pre existing condition, what exactly do you mean please? Are you saying that he had a long standing illness?
Why would he have to be seen by a Doctor?
The reason I ask, is that when I went for my medical, one of my many problems was diagnosed in 1994 and is still with me. It was a male nurse that carried out my medical.
    Thanks

He has two medical conditions that he was born with, both severe but not life threatening. It was neither of these conditions that prompted the application for ESA but a more recent one. We also think this recent condition may have been misdaignosed due to symptoms that could be associated with his 'birth' conditions but may in fact be symptoms for the undiagnosed illness.
Sorry if that doesn't make sense but obviously don't want to go into specifics on an open forum.
When ds started explaining his conditions to the nurse, she stopped him and said she couldn't carry on he'd have to see a doctor, that's as much as I know. Of course there wasn't a doctor on duty that day so hence a third appointment!

How do you think that would be constructive? Do you think it would help the OP's claim?

  • Its a good job Carers Uk dont have the same attitude. If they did they wouldnt bother campaigning would they. Luckily carers have had a lot of support from the Daily Mirrors Caring for Carers campaign over the past year.
Do you suggest that disabled people just lie down and take the discrimination and the prejudice from the establishment and society.
Maybe if Fiona Pilkington had spoken up about the police not taking disability hate crime seriously,it may have shamed the police into doing something about the way her and her daughter were suffering and just maybe they would still be alive today.

You have not answered my question.

  • The BBC made a programme called Whos Cheating Who about the ESA scandal. They probably knew it wouldnt help the claimants indiviidually but they still made it anyway. Twenty one years ago people were probably scratching their heads thinking "well how is a demonstration going to stop the poll tax! Its always in the papers when an ex soldier is refused DLA. Cant help wondering if you would have asked the same question if the OPs husband was an ex soldier.

I am now assuming that you are not responding to my posts, as your comments are irrelevant to the question and to the OP. We are talking about an individual, not a mass cause.

I cannot see any discrimination or prejudice referred to in the OP.
  • I wouldn't take it to the papers because then any anonymity would go and I know the last thing ds wants or needs is to have his name and face plastered all over the papers (even the local ones). It wouldn't influence any decisions and would do a hell of a lot of harm to our family. I have only posted so much detail here because it's 'anonymous' and it's been difficult to do that but not knowing anything about the system I needed help and MSE has been a godsend.
I just want a confirmed diagnosis of current illness, a medical that actually takes place and the right decision! Then maybe all the stress will go away and ds may improve.
