Purchased phone on blacklist
Hi,
I purchased a iPhone off ebay, which worked perfectly fine for about half an hour then I realised I had no service.
I rung Orange for advice, and they advised me the phone is blacklisted.
The phone was originally on 02 so tried to contact them too.
Spoke to Orange once again, and they said they believe the phone is blacklisted by Orange and they will need for the previous owner to contact them.
I e-mailed the seller on eBay that advised they were unaware it was blacklisted because they had been using it.
E-mailed them back telling them to contact Orange (or their previous service provider) and have yet to receive a reply.
Is there anything I can do (because I would like to keep the phone stupidly) or simply shall I just open a dispute on eBay and get a full refund?
Thanks in advance.

There's nothing you can do (if you could the whole blacklisting thing would be pointless).
Only the original owner can get the block lifted.
I get 1 or 2 calls a week like this about phone bought on the 'bay. . .0 -

There are several reasons a phone is blacklisted, usually because it has been lost or stolen, the subject of an insurance claim or a contract phone where the account is outstanding and the network have placed an IMEI bar on the phone.
Contract the seller and ask him exactly what game he is playing and demand your money back giving a time limit of 24 hours for the money to be back in your PayPal account before you take further action. Once the money is back in your account, you will return the phone.
As soon as you have your money returned, you make the report to PayPal.0 -

I'm pretty sure they cannot use it as a crude method of credit control. This would effectively make buying ANY contract phone a massive risk, and would often "punish" a totally innocent party as people often sell on their free upgrade and keep using their old phone.0
