Comet - its official they hate their customers

I bought a washing from them about 4 months ago.
It brokedown completley.
Have had 2 different engineers out on 3 occasions.
First engineer, fitted a circuit board but couldnt program it so arranged to come back.
In the meantime what neither me or my partner realised was that the obviously incompetent engineer hadn't connected the inlet hose back to the maschine or turned the water off properly.
After being out all day the following day, we came back to a flooded kitchen and a puppy dog that looked like it had swam the channel.
It was so wet in there that we would have needed wellies to go in the kitchen and prepare dinner that night. My floor tiles have all risen and there was cracking in some of them, kitchen floor ruined.
An hour on the phone and conversations with 3 different staff later I put in a complaint to head office and am promised that they will get someone to call me back within 4 hours from the emergency response team, that any damage to the floor will be payed for and that any other cost ie; launderette costs etc would be covered by them.
This was a friday night, I recieved no phone call back and when I called again was told no one can do anything until after the weekend.
Needless to say I had told them to send a different engineer this time.
In the meantime the floor was still pretty wet with water seeping up from under the flooring.
The next morning my partner came down, slipped and hurt her ankle on the wet floor. She has had trouble walking on it as it is bruised and swollen and has got worse as the bruising has started to come out more. This hasn't made looking after our sick 5 month old baby and 2 year old any easier as you can imagine.
She has been to the doctor and has since been sent down the hospital for x-rays. All down to the sheer incompetence of the Original engineer.
So engineer no.2 comes out on the monday afternoon, has been told nothing about the job so hasnt come equipped to finish the job off. He re-books to come back the next day (tuesday)
He comes back on the tuesday with the correct part and tools, fits it and then on further inspection tells my partner that the element was the actual cause of the problem and changes that telling her that because there was such a build up of limescale that it went bang.
He also told her that she is supposed to take it out once a month and clean it ? which of course would require you to take half the maschine apart.
On top of this he has said to her that there is a small break in the power cable so what he's actually done is put some electrical tape around it and told her not to spill anything on it ? is it me or is this absolutly outragous, unproffessional and a complete health hazard ?
So the outcome after speaking to more than several different staff at comet customer services, head office, complaints team, investigations team including about 3 or 4 different managers there over the course of a week;
I have been told that all they will do is look at covering the cost of the flooring and in so many words that they really have no interest in the fact that my partner has hurt herself quite badly and that i have spent a small fortune in the launderette.
I have been told by the lady who called me regarding this that the other members of staff who have told me keep any receipts for costs incurred ie launderette bills etc. and to get 2 quotes on the flooring to send to them had "misinformed me". So in other words I said they had blatantly lied to me.
I asked her several times what they are going to do to rectify the problem and she would not answer, talking and then sometimes rudely shouting over the top of me to avoid answering.
When i asked her if she would honour the promise of covering the launderette costs made by other members of staff she said no they wouldnt and i shouldnt have been told that.
When i asked her if they were going to do anything with regards to my partner hurting herself on the wet floor which had been caused by their companies incompetent engineer, she completly avoided the question and proceeded to be rude and abrasive in her manner.
The way that it was left (and this concerns me) was that I have to wait for someone from there insurance company to contact me with regards to the flooring. I asked for a rough timescale and was refused an answer.
Seems to me they are saying dont contact us we're contact you.
And we all know what that usually means.
It seems that every single person i spoke to throughout this whole process could not care less. No one would commit to answering any questions when asked and all were bordering on rude in the way they spoke to me with some actually being rude. And yes i did complain to managers regarding these people but to be honest they for the most part came across exactly the same way.
All the staff have a disinterested , don't care attitude and if you don't agree with what their telling you then you can sod off as far as they are concerned.
I will never ever buy from there again and will go out my way to make sure that everyone i come into contact with is made aware of how badly they treat their customers.
I am both disgusted and appaled by the whole thing and will be contacting watchdog, which and any other consumers rights sites to make my voice heard.

Your treatment was poor.
However your partner slipping on a wet floor is not their fault. She knew it was wet, therefore she should have been more careful.0 -
Please don't call these goons "Engineers" ! An Engineer is a highly qualified person.

Were they Comet's engineers, or from the manufacturer/service company?Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -
I found COMET also appalling. You may find COSTCO a better company – it is fantastic in refunding for faulty items.0

It was comet engineers both times.
And the flooring was only wet due to an incompetent engineer who did not do his job. The floor would never have been wet in the first place had it not been for him.
And as much as i had tried to mop it up, the problem was that the floor was so wet that the water was seeping out from under the flooring so as soon as it had been mopped up, you would tread on it and it was pushing the water back up through the floor.
And just to comment on costco, other members of my family swear by them, they will refund or replace on any broken down or faulty items.
And personally I have also found that amazon were very good when my dvd player went wrong, they offered a full refund or replacement.0 -
COMET apparently buy out the first year of warranty from the manufacturers, certainly from INDESIT/HOTPOINT, meaning that their operatives attempt repairs. I am currently doing battle with COMET having been told that as my machine was out of warranty it was my problem at my expense, despite having 3 attempted repairs by COMET within 6 momths. I contacted HOTPOINT who sent an engineer to repair the machine again. He stated that had they (HOTPOINT) experienced this they would probably have replaced the machine with a new one after the second failure of the same part (Main Seal) however as I had bought from COMET and machine was over a year old repairs under extended warranty were only thing which would be considered.:mad:0

But they may well be engineers.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -

Well I have an Indesit so this now makes sense.
I never could understand why they would always insist on a repair when most of the time any manufacturer worth its salt would replace the item within the warranty period.0 -
Tried to return a printer to Comet today. I have had it for 10 months. They would not even repair it until I had taken it personally to an Epson checking site 10 miles away. Having stated that I bought the item from them and they should deal with the repair or replace the item, they just were not interested. The manager appeared uncomfortable was stated that this was their policy.
If I even think of buying anything from Comet again, would someone please slap me!!!!!!:mad:0 -
Do not know why people go to comet or curry's they have an awful reputation stick to a local trader you pay a bit more but the customer service is better, I also am aware argos have had a few hits with regards gripes but I have taken 5 vacuums back and they have changed every one with no quible's and I burnt them out doing industrial cleaning for my business . OH and 2 carpet cleaners all over a 12 month period.0
