What kind of sick society do we live in ... no that's not a question, well it is but you know. Geesh some people beggar belief. The low life is probably sat at home/hovel watching the teletubbies on tv whilst he eats alphabetti spaghetti and tries to spell the word dog.

As said before, it's the poor dog who will pay the ultimate price (that's if an innocent person or another dog doesn't pay it first). So much for loyalty.
  • I see they are talking about this topic this morning on BBC News. Lots and lots of people are emailing in to say that they are having to get up in the early hours of the morning, 4-5am, just to walk their dogs, as they are fearful of being attacked if they walk them any later in the day.

I know how they feel

They had a PDSA Vet on, and she said that there has been a massive increase in dog-on-dog attacks in recent years - yeah, well we kinda know that, don''t we? It's all happening on our doorsteps and now we don't feel safe to walk our own dogs.

What do we do? How does someone like little old me, make a stand against this sort of thing? How do we as members of the public... make a difference here? Never before have I felt so much drive to do something about a situation... and yet I feel completely powerless up against these thugs with killing machines in their hands.

Have you heard of a walking bus ? It's something they do here for children so that they can walk to school in safety.

For example, a mother leaves home with her child in the morning and they then walk to the house of the next child, collect that child and then walk onto the house of the next child who's signed up for the scheme. I don't know exactly how it works but I presume that once the amount of children gets to maybe 4 or 5 then another mother joins the walking bus and so on until all the children are collected and they then can walk to school in safety. I think it's basically to stop people using cars for the school run and to give the children a bit more exercise.

I just wonder if you could start some kind of walking dog bus and pick people and their dogs up as you go along. I don't know how the logistics of this would work as there's no way of knowing how near to you the next nearest dog & owner would be. I suppose some people might be wanting to give their dogs a longer walk than others in which case you could map out a route and departure time before the scheme started and then people could decide if it suited them before signing up.Then there's the question, do you do this once a day or twice ? Then of course there's always that first person in the bus that will have to walk on their own for a bit so it won't work if everyone's scared. As I write this I can see that setting it up to suit a number of people could be very difficult.

Perhaps a piece in your local paper might result in offers of help to organise something or to assist say the first two or three people.

This whole idea might seem like nonsense and I apologise for that but it might be something that could form a rough foundation for a better idea. Then again you could just scrap this whole post lol

Sorry, just trying to come up with something, anything.

A good way to fend of a dog running at you is to walk with a pop up umbrella, as the dog gets close to you just open the brolly up in front of you. I know a few people who have used this method successfully.

That's awful, I feel so sorry for the staffy too as it's a victim of it's owners awful behaviour. The only thing I can suggest is driving to a walking area which is a reasonable distance from the attack place. Are there any local farmers which would allow you to walk your dogs on a spare field for now? It's a long shot but may be much safer than a public area.

We've been out and bought a 200ml can of this today. When we took the dogs out this afternoon we had this can with us, plus the ground pepper as suggested by Chris. Definitely less anxiety from us passing to the dogs, it felt better knowing we had something to hand should there be any problems...
