I think I may also take your Mum's advice, thanks Chris x

You could try carrying one of these too http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pet-Corrector-Dogs-Cats-Product/dp/B001A36B8Q
I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

Oh jeeez, this is nowhere near Elvaston Castle is it?

We take part in organised dog walks there, and although the dogs in question are many times larger than a staffy, most of them would be vunerable to attack, as would the owners. If it is near this area i'll report this on the GD forum if that is ok.

As for worrying about taking them out, yup, i'd be the same, and i'd certainly consider not taking them for a while if needs be, I know all dogs need walking but a big play in the garden is better than getting attacked by a k*ob head and his misguided weapon.

Maybe a panic alarm would help, although I guess it could hurt the dogs hearing (yours most importantly but i'd never wish to harm another dog unless totally neccesary)

    Stay safe

I haven't heard of any reports too close to Elvaston Castle. We go there most weekends, not usually with our dogs as that is 'our' time and we enjoy a walk round together. This attack was about 6 miles away from the castle.

  • lisawood78 - you weren't, by any chance, on one of these walks round Elvaston on Sunday morning just gone, were you? :) We came across a fairly large group with lots of dogs and I just thought maybe it was you?!

  • That is a scary situation to be in. Not wanting to take your dogs out for walks must be terrible. The only suggestion would be to drive to a nearby park when you can or move. U should'nt have to put yourself and your dogs at risk.
  • Hi EP, no it wasn't us.

We were there maybe a month back, and you would know that it's us, we usually have about 30 Great Danes with us, if you go there a week on Sunday you will see us.

    Give a wave :-)

Ooh I'll look out for you all - 30 Great Danes? What a sight :D:D

These are great on some dogs. My rottie will stop in his tracks and hates the noise but my staff will completely ignore it though. For the price of them they are a great buy, even as a confidence booster for dog walkers so less anxiety travels down the lead to their own dog.

  • This is terrible, I hope they catch that moron soon.

I can understand why you are worried about going for walks locally. If there are several neighbours with the same problem, could you all arrange to go out as a group a couple of evenings a week? Safety in numbers and all that. That man would be too cowardly to come up and try to attack all of you.

You have a very good point, and it may be worth raising this with a few neighbours who are willing to walk with us in an evening.
