Anyone dealt with The Jigsaw Store or When Sparks Fly Ltd

  • I also ordered three easels early this week of another of When Sparks Fly’s websites - easelstore.co.uk/. They were shown as being in stock, paid extra for delivery within 48 hours as I need them by this weekend and all seemed above board as it is a very professional looking site. I paid nearly £200 for the products through my bank debit card.

When I tried ringing them the following day about when it will be delivered and constantly got no answer, and got no answer to the emails I sent, the penny dropped. Done some searching around, found it was part of the When Sparks Fly group and found my way onto the thread.

I’ve tried ringing many of the When Sparks Fly numbers but to no avail. Has anyone got contact details for this Duncan Hayes, or know what is the best way to deal with this as I need these products by the weekend, hence paid extra for the 48 hour delivery?
  • I ordered some Pelikan ink from Inked Pens (a When Sparks Fly website) on 15th February 2011. Since then, nothing. No reply to 4 emails and 3 phone calls just ring through to answer phone or simply rings off.

They took my £14.20 very rapidly though. They are frankly, rubbish.

I will be near their premises in Oxford soon, and may just pop by to have a chat....

I suspect it'll all be boarded up.
  • in regard to their contact address details they are always old premises that they have left. the last registered address for when sparks fly ltd was not their trading address. independence retail ltd have not been at cider press barn since halfway through last year, they were trading from the carlson suite, vantage point business village, mitcheldean, glos. As were when sparks fly ltd, but they have now dissapeared from there as well,

If you look at all the webstores listed on when sparks fly website, you will notice that they are designed and hosted by atom cloud, zillu, inspired servers etc. they all have links to the directors of when sparks fly, independence retail and a number of other web based stores they are involved with. visit atom cloud and click on portfolio and contact details. like i said all contact details for all of these enterprises are out of date.

I have unfortunately fallen into the trap with another company run by When Sparks Fly Ltd - they are no longer answering the phones, you cannot leave a message on the answerphone as the mailbox is full and all emails I have sent (to numerous addresses for these people) have been ignored or certainly not responded to. The company I ordered from was OakwoodToys.com and have been stung for £70 (debit card unfortunately).
Company are impossible to get hold of by phone or email. I have written to them cancelling my order under the Consumer Protection Distance Selling Regulations 2000 requesting a full refund but am not holding my breath.

Anyone have any recent info on this company - the Duncan Hayes who is the director of When Sparks Fly or the others involved, Bruce Stanley Mead (also listed as director)?? Anyone have a landline number for them (not 0845 number)?

How can these people get away with this and who would be responsible for shutting down their operation?

    Any help appreciated.
  • SMALL CLAIMS COURT
We've been stung too, £105 with Artists-Easels.co.uk another whensparksfly company. Oddly, a recent order was processed quickly so when we came back as they seemed legit, and our next order (whilst being told at order that money is only debited after despatch) the money has been taken but no items have arrived and still waiting after 2 weeks whilst unable to contact them by phone.

I fear the worst, so the the next step is to cancel the order and if they don't supply a prompt refund then we'll write a formal letter via recorded delivery to the registered company address demanding full payment within 14 days, then we'll have to pursue the debt via the small claims court. It's only £100 but you can guarantee the refund will arrive once he sees those court papers demanding £100 + fees. Will keep you informed.

I think the best way to handle this would be to do what I'm about to do and that is to write a formal letter to Mr Hayes (as per my last post) demanding a full refund within 14 days. If he doesn't respond then you send a final written demand (all by RD post). Next step is to lodge a claim via the small claims court (you can do this online)...it's not expensive but he will then owe you those fees too. Distance selling regs support the consumer in this type of situation, and unless he's about to go bust, he'll have no choice but to deal with the refund or you'll have no choice but to engage with some bailiffs and personally visit his place of work and recoup sufficient enough items to auction off to the value of your debt. You know what, with "rogue traders" like this at large part of me hopes that he is so dis-organised he'll not even notice a court summons through the post - leaving me with a story about the bailiff visit to tell the grand kids!

Anybody else pursued an online vendor through the small claims track for failed orders / refunds?
  • I too am in a similar position. Placed an order with When Sparks Fly Ltd a month ago, not received product, they have taken the money from my credit card, they are not replying to emails and their 2 phones numbers that I have just ring as engaged :-(
  • I ordered from The Whiteboard Store, again one of WSF's shonky enterprises, I placed my order in July and have not seen it. It says my order is being processed, and the customer services number is constantly engaged - I've emailed twice as well and heard nothing.

By reading this thread I'm sorry to hear so many similar tales, surely it's time to get Watchdog on the case!

I will start proceedings to get my money back, and will buy a whiteboard from elsewhere. Grrrrr!
  • I have now received my item!

Add me to list of people who have been ripped off.

Placed an order for my little nephew at the end of November from briotrainsets.co.uk (they actually use the official Brio logo) which I find out it’s part of When Sparks fly, got told it would be delivered within 4 days so plenty of time before Xmas, I’m still waiting 2 months on. I’ve sent many an email, no reply, phoned probably 30 times, no answer.
Can anyone suggest how I can get my money back?
I’ve written to the official Brio website to inform them and am enquiring with trading standards but if anybody can suggest how best to deal with these people I’ll be most welcoming.
What’s more annoying is that I not a big user of internet shopping but in 2011 I thought why not, well wish I hadn’t bothered.

If anyone has legit address I can send these written letters too that would be a great help.
