Happy new car Ames - what colour is it? (that's as technical as I get with cars)

Suzy - Go back tomorrow and ask to speak to whoever is in charge and ask to make a formal complaint about it - doesn't matter if the manager isn't there - someone must be in charge in their absence. I paid in a cheque to one of the machines in my branch and hadn't noticed that the reciept said £0.00, I went and asked a few days later (when it hadn't shown in my account) and they said that it can take up to a week for them to reconcile the balances so don't give up just yet.

DH and I have had a bit of a  day....we started our relationship in debt and this will be the first time out of it....bit of a frightening concept and we're trying to get our heads around who we are when we're debt free....if that makes any sense. It's so ingrained into us to not spend and clear, clear, clear the debt and whilst we want to save, save, save we want a bit of breathing space......who knew that becoming debt free would make us feel so lost.

  • Pooky, when you are debt free, how about having a saving goal... sorta revers of paying off a debt, pay into a savings accoun or 2, so that you have positive targets to reach?

The thing is to take it slowly Pooky. I know when I was nearly debt free, I was thinking of all sorts of things I was going to do, but then of course I got the car and put myself back in debt :( I love the car and the freedom it has given me, but I hate the fact I am in debt again when I was so nearly debt free for the first time in my adult life!

Anyway - sorry sidetracked - this will give you time to get to know each other again, but in a stress free (moneywise anyway) way. It will enable you to do so much together and that can only be a good thing.

    Enjoy

A question - is there a way of going into a thread and finding the last post you have read, instead of having to trawl through to find it?

Thanks guys - at least you understand where I'm coming from. :D

Short term focus - Get DH through his assessment and driving again if he feels able.

Long term focus..... we want to buy a house - quite how that will pan out is anyones guess - the insurance settlement from the accident might be enough to cover the entire cost or just part of it but without a wage at the moment we're pretty scuppered.

I know Scaredy....I am just doubting myself over everything now. I know I didn't split the money up and took it all with me, but it's my word against the system.

The managers aren't there until Monday, but I think I'll go in tomorrow in any case and see what my next step is. I was told I could raise a complaint, but I'm not sure what I'm compaining about.

I wrote the paying in slip incorrectly and put the money in - noone else. I mean....what proof do I have that I put the money in? .

I would raise it and push it. You know what you did and the system is telling you that you didn't. They are not going to admit it is also their mistake. It's obviously a fault in the system if its been picked up by Dom.

When I was last at university (just before they stopped making Model T Fords) a friend of mine was accused of lying to the bank. While she was in an exam 'somebody' was in her bank extending her overdraft and taking several hundred pounds out of her account. The girl behind the till swore blind that it was her (well she would wouldn't she!) that had done all this after the bank conducted an unofficial identity parade of one. She had to take it up with the police and effectively prove that she had had one sheet of handwritten notes, one card (but not her purse!) and her cheque book stolen from the library just before her exam. The saving grace was that the financial transaction was taking place as she was sitting down to the exam. That is the only reason she could prove it.

It did allow her to change her account easily though. The new bank was so pleased the other one had SO monumentally f**ked up they welcomed her and her overdraft with open arms.

The above is a good story to tell any new students you know.
