You're by no means the only one ripped off by these scum bags and with the holiday season approaching certainly won't be the last. Goldcar, and many other rental companies, seem to offer the best deal but as you've found make their money by sharp practices.

I have learnt my lesson and only go to the better known rental companies now but there are times when they can still rip you off when you're at you're most vulnerable, good luck.

Why, oh why, do we savvy MSE-ers not use Google or Tripadvisor for reviews before buying car-hire; such an important component of a holiday?

“Steer Clear Of GoldCar” They rip you off.

Hired a car through Ryanair Cartrawler who are agents for “GOLDCAR” in Alicante.
After a 60 minute wait I eventually got served by an abrupt agent who debited my credit card 1500 Euros instead of just blocking it for this amount. It was only after a few days into my holiday when I checked my credit card statement to find it was accruing interest and had to drive a 200 Kilometres round trip all the way back to the airport to have it refunded as you cannot get them on the telephone.

On picking up the car in their dimly lit car park on level 2 large scratches on the driver’s door were pointed out to me on the check list. I couldn’t see any more so accepted this and drove off. I returned the car after seven days in the same condition as I picked it up to the check in desk again in the dimly lit car park on level two and the agent checked the car and said all was OK.

Now the nightmare, on returning to the UK I checked my credit card again only to find they had debited £282.28 for scratches to the bumper. I was livid and sent an email immediately to their customer services, they were not interested and said the charges would remain. I will not let this fraud go without a fight so have copied my 100 emails to their CEO Juan Cazcona jcazcona@goldcar.com waiting for an apology.

Congratulations on joining the club of thousands of people who do absolutely nil research and checking before they book holidays, hotels, car hire etc.
It's difficult to be sympathetic but I really do hope you have learned a lesson and that you never put yourself in this position in the future.

Surely if you have evidence to back up false claims and fraudulent activity you can claim it back on your credit card ??

I've just got back and been stung for charges as like most, but I took a before and after video, pics of fuel being full yet charged on a full to full scheme.

If I make a claim and found to be fraud I could go to prison, how do they claim for the same damage over and over again ?? and they say it's the common person putting insurance up ??

I've been sorting my current dispute, as you can see in my video on youtube " Goldcar rental video - damage details and rentalcars app pictures" I had taken video of all the damage and as said working for AVIS / Budget I knew all the tricks / scams of the trade. make sure things are in the vehicle and use your smartphone to document it #TimeStamp

I've found TWITTER to be the best port of contact so far, @goldcarcares my case is currently going through a supervisor, I'll post back what happens from here.

I did notice that petrol is charge in euros and then you pay in pounds and there's a 2% charge for this on goldcars contract.

After days firing messages back and forth on twitter I got a full refund on the charges, bit disappointed that this new car fuel deposit charge hasn't been repaid but the £157 they took is safely back in my account PHEW

keep fighting and remember twitter is your friend @goldcarcares and get evidence, leave no stone un turned
