have you considered serviced apartments there are some fab ones in bristol overlooking the harbour and the ss great britain they work out cheaper and you have so much more space
but if its hotels then Hotel du vin in bristol is fab even the basic rooms are gorgeous with the best bathroom ever - with a big old fashioned bath and an amazing walk in shower that you both lie down in :D you can lie down
or midaway betwee bristol and bath is a lovely old pub /hotel the

This is a good site to search through too Gemma as not only can you check availability but it will compare prices via different bedbookers and show the reviews . http://www.hotelscombined.com/SearchResults.aspx?fileName=York&checkin=2010-10-01&checkout=2010-10-03&languageCode=EN&Adults=2&Rooms=1

The novotel is coming up at £95 if you want a decent chain syle hotel in a good location at a reasonable price but there are loads of others.

  • Hi Gem,

What are you looking for and do you have a budget in mind?

There is a great little place called L'enclume in the lakes it is quite expensive but it has a michelin star restaurant. My girlfriends parents have been a few times and they say its fantastic.

If you're looking for a city Bristol or Bath are beautiful and have some great hotels.

    I hope this helps
  • Hi thanks that place looks fab! Our budget is prob 2-250 for both nights max as we will still need spending money etc.

We live in the country so would quite like a city break where we can go for a drink and not need to taxi home as we live in the middle of nowhere now we dont really ever go out as it costs so much to get a taxi home etc.

We like historical quaint cities if poss where there is plenty to do/look at i love shopping too! I love london but my partner isnt the biggest fan so thats something i have to do with the girls lol

This is our first weekend away as a couple to without the twins so would be nice if it was a bit special rather that just being a ibis break but i know on our budget it wont be easy

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions

edinburgh - beautiful city, you can stroll around and get lost in the winding streets, and go for the underground vaults tour and pretend to be really scared with ur other half - great fun! cnt recommend any boutique hotels, but sure there will be plenty

In Edinburgh the Apex City hotel on Grassmarket is reasonably priced and very central.
  • I use the website Sugarvine alot for ideas, see what they have on there as they have reader recommendations too
  • shakespeare-country.co.uk/offers/ have some good suggestions for bargain weekends away. Stratford-upon-avon is a beautiful place, with swans on the river and lots of olde worlde nooks and crannies to explore. Definitely one to consider.
