I vote for York too. Dean Court is a lovely hotel overlooking the Minster, some lively pubs, and shops.

Just seen this deal on hotukdeals. 2 nights from £79 including dinner, breakfast, wine with dinner, and unlimited wine/beer between certain hours in the evening. Couldn't see York but there's one in Chester for £89 per night per room.

It has gone up a lot...but I stayed on a girly weekend so we shared the cost (left OH at home)lovely though, and so convenient. The other place I could reccomend is across the road, the Guy Fawkes pub, very atmospheric, very olde worlde, probably a lot cheaper.

It will be fine, I think we paid arounbd that and we had a room with a side view of the Minster, the location is great though. About 10 mins walk from the station, if you are driving I dont remember parking though so you may want to check.

My vote would be Oxford, beautiful buildings, great atmosphere.
Use tripadvisor.com for unbiased reports of accommodation and eating places.

Someone here suggested Harts in Nottingham. It's just about THE most expensive restaurant/hotel in the city. Excellent food but definitely not a budget choice

It was me! I stayed at Harts for under £60 a night thanks to Laterooms.com :p! Didn't eat in the restaurant though apart from the free breakfast!
  • Gemma go to the www.visityork.org website and do an accomodation availablity search . You can check reviews on trip advisor
