Can anyone reccomend anywhere for a romantic break please

Options
Hi

My partner and i want to go away weekend of fri 29th Oct for 3 nights for my birthday-we would pref like a romantic hotel ie not travelodge as this is our first weekend away from our twins lol we are open to ideas but i think a city break would suit best so that we can enjoy a wander around the city and its historical buildings etc but also close enough to be able to go out in the evening for a meal and a drink maybe even a dance! Our budget isnt huge hence why im struggling to find anything better than a travelodge.

Boutique chic small hotel, nice city please someone tell me its do able.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

    Hi Gem

I would have suggested our place at http://www.kendalcottages.com but I'm afraid we're already booked for dates you're looking for.

Where are you based and how far are you prepared to travel? I've heard good things about Rudding Park but it's a larger hotel and not city-based; if those are both things you require, it perhaps wouldn't be suitable.
  • hi thanks for your reply your place looks lovely we are in rutland someone has recommended windsor or bath but im struggling to find an intimate place to stay
  • re looking at bedget we may have to stay somewhere cheaper ie b and b or more basic hotel does anyone have any ideas for places were thinking bath might be a good choice
  • I don't know if it's too far for you to travel, but I would always suggest York in these instances (although I went to uni there so am a bit biased!) - lots of nice hotels (my sister stayed here when she went to York Races and it's right next to the train station, bit bigger than you might want but really nice: http://www.royalhotelyork.co.uk/), plenty of really lovely restaurants (I'd recommend Melton's Too on Walmgate), lots of good pubs and historical buildings and nice shops, and it's compact enough to walk around easily but not too small.

Or what about Harrogate? It's a bit smaller than York but quite similar in terms of nice buildings and cafes, easy to walk round etc. No restaurant recommendations but I have stayed in a really lovely little boutique hotel which I can't find on Google now but will look for. There's a hammam as well if you fancy trying that which is kind of like a Turkish spa.

  • Visit Bath. it's perfect for a romantic trip, although hotels aren't always cheap.

    This hotel looks lovely.

  • Thanks lizzie i looked at that one but its way out of our budget :( im really struggling to find somewhere reasonably priced that doesnt look like my grannies back bedroom:rotfl: i have suggested holiday inn but my partner wants it to be bit more 'special' as its for my bday
  • How about this one?

I really do love Bath so I'm a bit biased. Think I might have to start researching a trip for myself. :D

no idea what your budget is but have a look at www.55anorthroad.co.uk it is a b&b but has the wow factor your husband may want..good reviews on trip advisor too....its a little out of thee centre of bath but its on a good bus route or if you take the car a very easy drive in....

I'd also recommend york . Plenty to do there , romantic, historic & loads of hotels to choose from . Maybe the novotel would be a good suggestion if you dont want Bed & breakfast type .good location on river ouse side & very central . . Loads of others to choose from

If you want to do a city break overseas . I would suggest Eastern europe Prague , tallinn, Krakow can all be done on a budget with Easyjet/Ryanair flights cheaply .Accomodation you could probably do any of those destinations for 3 nights total £150 -£200 for a reasonably decent hotel.

Only stumbling block I foresee is this is half term week so prices could be higher .

I'd add Brugee to that list - only 1hr easy drive from Calais and ferries really cheap. if you are going abroad.

what about the Cotswold - stratford upon avon is really nice.....or Bristol is great too.

if going north look at chester. beautiful city and all within walking distance ;) we LOVE it
