Sounds like an utter lunatic....no you are doing nothing wrong. If they'd been enquiring about TV viewing in general, then could have been tv-licensing, but a) they were enquiring about Sky and b) I assume you have a license?0

You don't know who the person is you are speaking too and are readily giving him details about your circumstances, if he then went onto to ask about your age, date of birth and address - you would be setting yourself up for ID fraud.
Be careful don't give out any information to anyone unless your confident you know who you are speaking to and then give out the information absolutely necessary.0 -

Totally agree, two words needed - one is off. You don't need to give ANYBODY ANY INFORMATION over the telephone. If you phoned me and I didn't know you (I'm ex-directory and registered with the TPS) you'd only get two words from me. Why on earth do people put up with this invasion of their privacy?0 -

It sounds like the people who try to sell you extended warranty on your sky box. I've had them call a few times claiming to be from Sky, but they clearly are not because when they ask questions about my Sky service, I tell them that if they work for Sky then they already know this information, which usually sends them into confusion as they can't follow their script.
The reason the bloke got stroppy with you is because he realised he could not sell you anything, so he turned nasty.
What is slightly worrying is that somehow these people have access to Sky customer information, which has probably been fed to them by some unscrupulous Sky employee.0
