Hey guys...really need ur help! I have purchased a wireless laptop. Already got a desktop which is not wireless. Has telewest broadband. Trying to connect the laptop to the broadband too. Got the wireless router..netgear WGT624. Trying to connect but not sure how to? please help.
Theres an ethernet wire coming out from the pc and going into the modem. I have recieved another ethernet cable with the router and am now confused where to put the latter cable. And also, once it is connected, what do i have to do?
Sorry, dont have much knowledge with routers lol so be gentle!

Cable modem

>PC where the dotted lines are Ethernet cables. Once you have set it up using this guide you will be able to connect using the wireless laptop. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
First thing doesnt the router have instructions?
Secondly I just bought a router for our uni accommodation and its really simple. You should have a CD with the router that you put in and it guides you through. You need to connect the router to the telewest modem, and also to the Pc so it can be configured. Once this is done, the software should set up a network to which your laptop should be able to connect..

thanks alot...Can u just explain a little bit clearly Cable modem
>Router
>PC ....i think i tried the same thing u said, but then i have no internet connection. i must be doing something wrong. Sorry, im a bit thick lol!0 -
Power everything down first as the cable modem will have the MAC address of your PC's ethernet card and will have to learn the MAC address of the router instead.
Connect the ethernet cable from your cable modem to the WAN port of the router. Then connect one of the LAN ports on the router to your PC with an ethernet cable.
Switch on the cable modem first and wait till all the lights are on. Then switch on the modem. You should see the WAN led blinking. Then switch on your PC.
You should have an internet connection now. The you can set up the wireless connection.0 -
