Local Link Up - rude caller.

Just had a call from someone called Ben at a company called Local Link Up. Apparently they are some kind of search engine optimisation company. When I told him that I wasn't interested he got angry and lost his cool completely. It didn't sound like the sort of company that I wanted to do business with and it appears that I'm right - given the contents of the thread at

Their own website looks impressive though...

Good deals do not come by way of a cold caller.

The best things are well hidden, if you want it, you have to find it yourself. I hope you don't make of habit of chatting to cold callers.
  • run away!!! very quickly.

  • So, our friend Ben is still at it. I got a call from him a couple of days back and he was increasingly aggressive when it became clear I wasn't going to avail myself of his services. His line:

    - you are advertising but your website is nowhere on Google organic searches (it's only just set up 3 weeks ago)

    - I provide therapy and coaching services in Brighton and by phone in the UK. He outlined his "no first page rank, no fee" blurb and said that he had 500 members of BACP (my professional association) on his books.

    - I said I wanted a couple of months to try and improve my rankings through my own efforts and he got very arrogant "If you could do that you would be a millionaire....."

    - I said "What - like you?" to which he responded "yes" Said his previous company was sold for £20 million and to look up Contentis.

    - He kept on very aggresively saying how are you going to do it yourself and I amused myself for a while not answering his question

    - in the end I couldn't get a word in edgeways and put the phone down.

Maybe they can get first page rank and maybe they can't, but they can't get first page for 500 people in my field. And of course a millionaire is going to spend his time cold calling......;)

Even if they could do as they claim I wouldn't go near an outfit that is so utterly unprofessional.

Gobsmacked does not begin to describe my reaction!

to let people know that this aggressive cold calling co is still at it maybe.

Surely it makes more sense to add the post to an existing thread than to start a new one.
  • He called me last month! I had the same experience, couldn't get a word in edgeways... put the phone down on him in the end and he tried to call back for the rest of the day and left a couple of abusive messages on my answer phone.
  • CHR15 is spot on!

As a publican I got hounded by cold callers every day.

I always asked them one question:

"If your service/product is so good and beneficial to me, why do you need to cold call and lay on the hard sell? Why aren't I already aware of it through trade press etc"

Ok that's two questions but you get the point

Would-be customers should be aware that what you don't pay if they fail to get your company on page 1 of Google is the monthly fee. As I understand it, you still lose the £300+ set up fee. Nice earner, though because whether they are successful or not they still get £300... In fact, they don't even really have to try, they still get £300.
  • I just found this thread after I "Googled" Local Link Up. I don't know if you're referring to the same company, but I joined a Local Link Up in January for no set-up fee?? I pay 20 odd quid a month to be on Google and have been gettin a couple of requests a month for quotes and stuff. I were peed off when I got the cold call cos I get em all the time, but I have to admit they were polite and friendly and not so pushy.

I've had 3 jobs from it up to now and made me a few quid.....all in and around Dewsbury where I live
