How can you not notice when you hit someone else ?

If you hit me and didn't stop, I'd have them throw the book at you.

You could have hit a child, a pedestrian, anything. You obviously cannot drive properly and seem to think it funny to blame it on music. You should be banned.

What a load of nonsense. I had a chap confront me at an airport once because he claimed I had hit his car on the approach road. He was absolutely furious. There was no damage visible on either of our cars and I certainly didn't feel or hear any impact but he seemed convinced I'd hit him. He even said that he wished there was some damage!

In the end he drove off and I caught my plane.
  • You are required to report any incident to your insurers, if you don't and this comes back to haunt you, you will be in deeps waters.

Which way did you hit the wing mirror? Wing mirrors are designed to bend back on themselves towards the side window if you hit them but not too hard.

Plus as Princeleah said if you hit a wing mirror, which sticks out, you cannot hit a wheel arch.

Your witness is only of real use if they were not in your car.

Did you get the other party's details? If so tell them that asap that you are going through insurance as you have no damage to your car , a witness to the incident and photos of their "alleged" damage. This should be enough to deter them as if they insist on claiming due to the claim being fraudulent they risk losing their job and not being able to get any type of insurance.

If they still insist on making you pay then tell your insurance company everything. Including the fact they you hit one side and they are trying to claim for the other side. And yes it means your premiums will go up even if it's proved later that you didn't do anything.

If they ask for the photos tell them that as per your insurance policy as you have now contact your insurers you can't correspond or contact them directly any more so they can't see the photos.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

Just really worried incase it goes to insurance :(

    No need to worry.

But you need to inform your insurer of the circumstances now.

And if all they want is their wing mirror paying for, then you can do that (by reimbursing your insurer's costs) and retain your NCD. But if there is something more sinister going on, then your insurer will be alerted, and will hopefully be able to ask pertinent questions at the third party.

It's possible that you just can't see the damage, some people seem incapable of seeing damage to a vehicle. The damage could be more than you think you saw!

But I have to say, it does sound like they're taking the !!!! and I hate people who do that!

So..... Are you sure they weren't they pulling out from a "parked position"?

There's no way at all they can prove otherwise without a witness and in that case it's likely their fault for not checking their mirrors, hows your neck?

My wing mirror was bent back which proves I did hit their wing mirror. I didn't notice because i had my music up - quite loud, my own fault.
I will take pictures of my car today, My witness is my deputy manager, he is also going to look through all the cctv today to hopefully get some more evidence. I'm thinking about ringing the insurance today just to let them know - that way i'm covered and they will know that their trying to pull a fast one with the wing mirror and wheel arch.

I was driving less then 5mph pulling into a tight junction, that couldn't/wouldnt cause a lot of damage surely? I will speak to my manager about getting the cctv from the junction, as he works in the area i'm sure he could pull a few strings.

You would have noticed your wing mirror being folded back if you'd used it as regularly as you should have ;)

Whilst I do think they are trying to pull a fast one I am very surprised that you did not notice you had hit another car (even with very loud music - I am the worst offender for loving my music in my car!) - how did you continue to drive without noticing your mirror was not in its correct position? Do you use your mirrors when driving? I find I use my mirrors even more when I have my music on as I cannot hear everything that is going on but I know I am aware of everything that is going on around me because I uses my mirrors - I don't want to appear harsh but would you have noticed if you had clipped a bike rider or motorcyclist?

Hope everything works out for you but do let this be a lesson on observation.
