Cumin. I always add cumin and ground coriander to red lentils and chickpeas. Those spices go so well with either pulses.

  • Believe it or not, an apple, peeled and diced. Adds sweetness and nourishment. I also add 1 apple plus some cumin (anti-carcinoma and very tasty!)

She won't 'taste' the apple, trust me :p but it will make a huge difference to the soup. Awesome, truly. Got the idea from a Covent Garden Soup Recipe I tried and it worked, I've added an apple ever since.

  • I make parsnip and apple soup and it makes the parsnip taste more 'nuttier' yet doesn't add too much sweetness as I always use a bramley cooking apple. Its gorgeous and I make gallons of the stuff when I get any marked down parsnips, but then I always add a chopped apple to any curry that I make
