    Some good tips here;
    Well the lentils I bought were from Tesco, red ones so no need to soak.
    The pan is about 9inches diameter and 5 inches deep.

    The taste is really different from the canned stuff, the cous cous gives it an interesting texture and flavour.

    I recently learned that lentils are a good source of protein and fibre, great for me as I workout at the gym regular and need a high intake of protein, around 150 grams per day and meat can be expensive so taking whey protein helps keep the cost down.
    Looks like lentils will be getting used more in my diet from now on :)

    does it have to be wholewheat couscous .One of my DGS had to take a packet into school for a food tech lesson and brought the remainder home and gave to me as no one in the family was keen on it.
    I don't think I have ever used it and have been wondering what to cook.I have lentils in the cupboard, but the couscous isn't wholewheat just ordinary sort of off white colour.has anyone any ideas as to what I can cook to use it up?.My friend said it was nice with chopped up mixed veg

    treat it like pasta, it's virtually the same so goes with all the same things. i've heard of people sprinkling couscous on parboiled potatoes to make them extra crisp.

    Mm, that sounds nice! We've got some cous cous and lentils that need using up - this sounds perfect :) I am going to try it

    The whole wheat is very different as it still has the germ and the bran present whereas refined cous cous does not.
    You could try white cous cous, might work?:)

    Hi PROLIANT,

    As your thread has now dropped down the Old Style board I've added it to our main lentil soup thread to keep the recipes and advice in one place.

    Hi
    I have been very busy cooking today ( have amazed myself:p)

    Anyway i decided to make a soup in the sc so threw in some carrots, onion, red pepper, red lentils, salt and pepper dash of ground corriander, some coconut milk (block kind) juice of an orange couple of garlic cloves. Have just zuzzed it together in the blender but tastes like something is missing??? Any ideas what i can add, not too spicy as dd will have some tomorrow for tea.

    Thanks so much xxx
