The last evening reception I was at had stovies and it was very popular. Of course you need oatcakes and beetroot.

I've never heard of stovies made with sausage! It's usually beef left from the Sunday joint if made at home. Can't imagine it without beetroot though but each to their own. ;)

Thanks everyone, maybe I'm just being a snob!!! They will probably do them a bit posher than you're average gresy spoon I must admit lol!!! You've just reminded me, they did say they could do like a ploughmans with ham, cheeses, pork pie etc which was somewhere between the buffet and the butties price wise. We've a few more to visit over the next few days but we're very limited around here as its avery rural area with only a few venues and with us being quite last minutew compared to most people alot of places are booked up.

Personally I'd love to have pizzas or posh mini burgers as they're my 2 favourite foods when I'm being naughty!!!
  • if you're last minute, you can definitely get them to do what you want for a good price - they're losing a booking otherwise!

I think its another one of those regional variations! Its usual to have it made with sausages here, either lorne or link. I love beeroot but I've never put the two together. May try that. I usually have stovies on a buttered roll with about an inch of butter yum yum :D
  • Our meal was at 5:30pm so we didn't bother with a buffet. Honestly, it's just not needed if you have a later wedding breakfast. Our guests had a three course meal at 5:30pm and then the cake was sliced and put out about 8:30pm. No one said they were hungry and I didn't see anyone sneak off to the club house (we were in a barn on a golf course) for a bag of crisps!

How many times do you eat a three course meal for your dinner and then have a plate of nibbles a few hours later?
