Evening buffet/food

Hi, I just wondered what everyone else is doing about evening catering. Our meal will be at about 6pmish so we were thinking of not doing any evening food. We've been to 2 weddings this year and they both did that. However, we've only looked at 1 venue so far, we like it but they insist on you having some kind of food in the evening. It's meant to be the £15 per head buffet as a minimum but they said they will compromise and let you have something smaller such as posh fish and chips. There other suggestion was bcon or sausage butties....OH loves this idea, I can't think of anything worse....it's a wedding not a trip to a greasy spoon!!!
Soooo, If we go to that venue I'd like to compromise and have some food, cheaper than the buffet but not as 'simple' as bacon butties!!!

It might be worth going back to the venue and saying that you love it but really don't want food in the evening - if it comes to a choice between having the venue booked and potentially losing a booking, they may be more willing to compromise even further.
Depends how good you are at haggling though!! I'm rubbish at it!!!
ETA: just read it again and realised you've only looked at one venue - keep looking, you might like the next place better!! xx0 -
Our meal was at half five, so at about 9ish we had bacon butties, and pizza for the veggies. I thought it was a fab idea - buffets usually get left anyway, and as the night wore on people were going back for the btties to soak up the alcohol.
Each to their own though

I dont think bacon and sausage butties are "greasy spoon" at all, everyone likes them and it is a nice alternative to a boring buffet! Plus cheaper, always a bonus.
We are getting married abroad, but having a reception back here on our return so it is just a evening do really. And our alternative to a buffet is roast sandwiches & roast potatoes. Pork and beef with all the trimmings.0 -
my brother had bacon sarnies and profiteroles at about ten o clock, they were georgeous!! not greasy spoon at all !:D0

At his Wedding - ha ha, forgot that bit!0

There are loads of things to have, sarnies like they have been suggested, fish and chips, pie and chips and peas, pizza, hog roast.
I went to a evening reception last month because they got married abroad they had the usual cold buffet with also chips, koftis, hot chicken drumsticks.
But they also had pieces of cold chicken tikka etc etc

We are having bacon and sausage butties! I'm quite excited about it! I hate seeing food left and know that people enjoy bacon and sausage buttie, my brother will certainly eat them and he is not easy to feed! Everyone we have told has been quite excited about it - they like the idea! Went to one 'do' where it was baskets of chips! They went down really well as people could pick at them!0

We're having a choice of bacon or sausage butties, and some veggie pizzas too. I was at a wedding a few weeks ago with bacon butties and chips for the buffet and they went down really well, plus its a cheap option that actually gets eaten.

we're having a 3 course wedding breakfast at 5.30pm and then sausage and bacon sandwiches at 10.30pm. They are being cut up fairly small and are being served by waiters carrying them round on silver trays a bit like big canapes. I have seen too many buffets with leftover food so wanted something small and simple to soak up the alcohol and feed any munchies
