Tesco Mobile Monthly Review (sim only)
Just changed from virgin to tesco mobile. Both are 30 day rolling contracts.
For £10 a month virgin currently do 200 minutes, "unlimited" texts.
For £10 a month tesco currently do 250 minutes, "unlimited" texts and 3 months free data.
So if you don't really use data a lot like me you get 50 extra minutes a month with tesco.
First thing was I wanted to turn voicemail off so I phoned customer service and asked them to do it. They told me it couldn't be done from their end and there was no number I could dial from the phone to do it, I could only do it from the settings within my phone. After that I got some texts that add data profiles and entries to your address book etc and there it was "Voicemail Off", customer service didn't know!
Second thing was that I sent quite a few texts and hadn't received delivery reports despite that option being on in my phone. I called up and was told that tesco mobile just don't do delivery reports, simple. I thought that I might be getting dodgy info from a call rep again so called and and spoke to someone else and was told the same thing, tesco don't do delivery reports because they "wouldn't be able to offer the service at this low price to the end customer if they did".
Third thing, data doesn't seem to work very well, anywhere, anytime. On both wap and 3g, in multiple different phones, different places in north and east london, day and night, webpages only seems to load 30-40% of the time.
Fourth thing, and the worst for me, you can't really check how many minutes you have remaining. I was looking for the number you call to listen to how many remaining minutes you have, or display it on screen, so I called customer service. They told me tesco mobile do not have this service and that the only way to check remaining minutes was to log into the website, which I did while on the phone and it showed me as having used nothing, this was a day after having the active service. The phone rep told me that the updates on the website are 5 hours old, I told him in this case they were at least a day old and he said that sometimes they are even more delayed. With me the updates seem to be about 10-14 hours old, this has been going on for over a week. Quite useless when wanting to know how many minutes you have so you don't go over! Bad for me, good for tesco when their customers don't really know how many minutes they have and go over their allowance incurring the expensive call costs!
Did give tesco a try but sadly the next call I'll be making to tesco mobile customer service will be to ask for my PAC code to switch back to virgin (or might check another 30 day contract if any available) since I never had any problem with them. With virgin you can listen to how many minutes you have by calling a number and by checking online, both of which don't even take five minutes let alone five hours (or 10 hours plus in my case) to update. Think I got a bit greedy for those extra 50 minutes!

The fifth thing I'd do is phone Tesco mobile and ask them to upgrade you to the deal they're currently doing instore and via telephone, ie, £10 a month for 500 minutes, unlimited texts and unlimited internet for the duration of the contract, still all on a 30 day running contract. Looks like they've short changed you.0

I'm sure it's 2915 to turn voicemail off. I have nothing but praise for Tesco Mobile. Absolutely fantastic as far as I'm concerned!0

TESCO yes you can get 500 min unlimted text and net for £10 untill 10th oct 2010 .... The only problem is you cant get delivery reports on texts from o2/tesco0

Is this promotion running in all stores?
Are there any limits to how long the contract (albeit 1 month rolling) will last at £10?
I'm sure this has been asked/mentioned before, but from my reading, the 'unlimited' internet will always be capped at 500mb? surely that's some kind of advertising standards issue?
as today's the last day of the offer I wonder if i'll be able to get my PAC off Vodafone in time...0 -
If you can't get the Tesco deal, try this T Mobile deal for £7.50 per month

You can still get the Tesco SIM only deals - http://www.tescomobilepaymonthly.com/sim-only-deals/
After spending hours researching the various SIM only tariffs, i think the standard SIM only and iPhone tariff are much better value than the other networks.
Because Tesco run off the O2 network, the 3G coverage is excellent in my area.
Anyone had any problems with Tesco's SIM only tariffs so far ?0 -
Sorry haven't replied in ages to this.
Yes I changed to the 500 minutes for the same price deal instantly when it came out, bargain!
I'm sticking with them for now just because I now get way more than I would with anyone else for that money.0
