TV Reception/Aerial problem

Hello all, wondering if someone can help.
We moved into a new build place two years ago and have never been able to get a decent signal on the bedroom tele (22in Lcd with built in Freeview).
In the front room we have Sky going through a communal dish and have never had a problem, but the other tele just won't work in terms of getting channels.
At first I used the socket in the wall behind the bedroom tele. I had a lead that went from this socket (I presume it goes to the aerial on top of the roof?). I then placed my own aerial into the connector in the middle of this lead.
I was told that I'd be better off just placing an indoor aerial into my tele and ignoring the wall socket but have now been told I should buy a lead that connects my tele to this wall socket as it will pick up a better signal. Before I buy this lead does anyone know what it's called and the chances of it working?
Sorry if this is confusing but it's driving us mental! Thanks

Oh and just to mention sometimes we get every channel working fine (96 in all) but over the last months we can sometimes only pick up 30 odd channels and even they won't work. Its usually bbc and itv that play up, one or the other or both at once.
One slight knock and the channels that do work usually stop, meaning another retune which takes a while and to make matters work the annoying tele makes a beeping noise everytime the signal plays up!0 -

You lost me here. Your lead has a connector in the middle? Then it is maybe a splitter?
You're always better off connecting to your roof top aerial, IF it is correctly installed and points towards your nearest transmitter. If you have problems with it, you could use an indoor aerial. If the reception is poor you could buy a booster to connect between your aerial and the TV. It will boost the signal. I played around with a few and ended up with using an aerial with integrated booster from "One for all" and an additional booster connected to it. Works quite well.I was told that I'd be better off just placing an indoor aerial into my tele and ignoring the wall socket but have now been told I should buy a lead that connects my tele to this wall socket as it will pick up a better signal. The cable is called "Coaxial Antenna Cable" and you might be able to find it in your nearest Poundland. But I thought you already have such a cable? If you want to buy a booster, buy one online or at Argos, try it out and return it if it doesn't work.0 -
Hello all, wondering if someone can help.
We moved into a new build place two years ago and have never been able to get a decent signal on the bedroom tele (22in Lcd with built in Freeview). This TV is only fed by an aerial?
In the front room we have Sky going through a communal dish and have never had a problem, but the other tele just won't work in terms of getting channels. Sky completely separate system and no socket for it in the bedroom?

I am sure the issue can be resolved but some more info required.
Do you have an aerial on the roof?
Do you have aerial sockets that you use elsewhere (not Sky sockets)?0 -
Sorry aboaut the terrible descriptions!
We live in a block with three levels and we are in the middle. There is definitely an aerial on the roof and that is what is connected to the slot in the bedroom wall.
I used to use a lead, it's hard for me to describe it now, it was a few months back. Basically it was a straight lead, one end was plugged into the wall, the other to the tele aerial socket. Inbetween this lead there was another small socket saying 'out' on it. I used to use this slot for the indoor aerial. Without plugging my own aerial into this socket I couldn't pick up any channels at all.
I spoke to someone and they said I need some sort of lead that goes straight into my tele from the wall socket. I'm just not sure what lead to get. I'm giving myself a headache here, apologies over the description!0 -
go into the loft space, and check there is actually something plugged into your bedroom socket, that leads to your roof aerial (if you actually have one, which still isn't clear - did you pay somone to install it, is it yours or someone elses, was it installed by the builder)
the lead you are talking about is coax, fly lead, but it's useless unless there is an aerial plugged in somewhere.!!

If you have an aerial socket then what you should need is this.
That is only an example I am not suggesting you buy it from there, it can be had a lot cheaper.
Does the aerial socket to your main TV work?
Mind you I guess you may never have tried it, if you have Sky0 -
Sorry about the lack of replies I appreciate everyone's help and advice it's just I'm posing on mobile phone!
Thanks , that link to the Curry's aerial looks like the sort of thing I was recommended. Can I buy any lead like that because there was a similar lead in a local shop for about £2.99... Or is there something special I need to look for? It doesn't need to be long, half a metre will easily do0 -

"I had a lead that went from this socket" - what lead did you have before and where did it go between?
If you have an aerial socket then all you need is a cheap cable to connect to your TV. No idea what you will get as you may be pointed at an analogue transmitter so you won't get any digital stations, however the principle is correct.
If, after connecting your TV to the cable you get nothing at all then we must investigate further......0
