Moorcroft refuse to deal with me by post

I have had an arrangement to pay a loan to Tesco Personal Finace for several years, I was injured several years ago in an accident and my only income now is benefits so I could not pay the full amount. The arrangement was for £17.00 a month which I have always paid. For reasons best known to themselves they have now transferred this account to Moorcroft Debt Recovery. I have spoken to Moorcroft on the telephone and asked to be sent what they require of me by post, they refuse to do this and say I must send everything by email. I do not want to do this as I like to have proof of what is sent and received. They say they do not have to send me anything at all.
To make matters worse I still have a standing order going to Tesco at £17.00 per month which they tell me not to cancel until matters are sorted out with Moorcroft.
Can anyone give me any advice please on my rights here.

  • What's wrong with email? It still provides a proof of what's been said/sent/received etc....print out the emails and keep them in a file if you want to keep hard copies.

Don't call them. Send them letters by post. Not everyone has email so I don't see why they only want email contact.

I do not want to use email. I want to send everything by post (recorded delivery) and have proof that they have received it.

They said they do not have to send me letters and they have no obligation to do so. The fact that they refuse to deal with me by post seems a little suspcious to me.

I'd go for 0! Give your head a wobble :naughty:

You still have proof of everything, sent and received. You can even get delivery and read receipts to prove they've opened your email.

How is that any different to recorded mail? Other than email is free.

OP if you want to use post then just tell them point blank you refuse to use telephone or email.

My question was regarding my rights, can they insist to only deal with me by email. I believe that they can not so I was posting here to ask what others think on this matter and to find out if I am in the right by refusing to deal with them in any way other than in writing.
  • Tell them you have no access to a computer and being disabled they cannot expect you to go out and find one.

Thanks for replies so far, I really don't understand why, when I have made all my payments as agreed to Tesco they have suddenly given my account to Moorcroft. The Moorcroft representative was incredibly rude on the telephone and when I asked him he said it was because I wasnt making regular payments. When I pointed out to him I have paid regularly by standing order for several years, he then said it was because I wasn't paying enough. Then I pointed out I was paying the amount that was agreed between myself and Tesco, taking my circumstances into account. He really had nothing to say then and just said they were dealing with it from then on. It is all very odd and quite distressing.
  • When you originally took out the loan with Tesco, you would have agreed to pay so much per month for so many months to repay it. Some time down the line you were unable to pay the contracted amount and came to an agreement to pay a lesser amount. However the contractual amount, each month, was still the original figure. In effect, each month, your account would go a little further behind and there will come a point where it is financially better for Tesco to sell your account to someone else to deal with, in this case Moorcroft. There is no reason why you and Moorcroft should not write to each other, as many people do not have access to the internet. You will be able to get an address for them from Google, I would think. I am sure that either Tesco or Moorcroft are suposed to write to you to say the account has been transferred to them. If this didn't happen you could write to Moorcroft asking for proof they are entitled to collect this money. Sorry as a complete technophobe I can't post links, but the "Prove it" letter is available on this forum.
