Hi banj - welcome to BCSC - Loads of questions and all of us have asked the same - basically, Bankruptcy COULD be an answer to your problems and CERTAINLY worth considering as you have very few assetts and live in rented accomadation. Bailiffs are MOST UNLIKELY to come and take your furniture.
If Car Finance is in your wife's name, then, providing she is not also declaring bankruptcy this should not affect your bankruptcy.
I have to log off soon, as my wife is preparing a New Year Party, but have a good look through the thread and this should answer most of your questions - at least until I, or someone else, get back to you.
Cheers and Good Luck
