I think the best thing for newbies is a chicken
You can't go far wrong with that. Although the first one I ever cooked had me and my friend in stitches when I tried to carve it. I couldn't find the meat ...

sorry but why do you need to wash chicken? surely any bugs would be killed off when you put it in the oven and the process of washing it would most probably spread any nasties even further with the droplets of water?0

For those of you on a strict budget, or just doing chicken ‘cos it’s cheap….
I guess the cheapest meat is probably from butchers (as I recommended earlier). However, there aren’t any butchers (except Halal) near where I live, and I guess the same is true for many of you. So here’s my supermarket guide.
HTH!
The cheapest chickens I know of are from Lidl. Their small frozen ones are only £1.79, and even being generous with the meat these last 2 people for 2 meals in this household. (The second meal is something like the famous chicken and leek pie) Remember to allow at least 24 hours in the fridge to defrost these. They also do fresh chickens for just over £2.
The nicest supermarket chicks are from M & S. These are obviously more expensive, but M & S have regular offers, and sometimes they do 20% off or similar, which makes their chicks brilliant value as wellEx board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0
