Also, on your point about carrycots for prams, we were told that you should not have our son in the carrycot for more than 1 hour at a time as the position they are in can restrict their lungs. So dont feel you NEED to buy one as we only used ours in the car, and as you dont drive I would say you dont need one.

Can you tell me what this means as I've never heard about this?

I think Phil_rich means the car seat baby carrier thing's that come with travel systems, some people leave their babies in them for too long check this link rather than a traditional carry cot thing, (hope thats ok Phil_rich just trying to help)

    Hi,
I have a 14 week old baby, and I tried not to spend too much either.
i got many many clothes from ebay, sainsburys( packs of 2-3 leggings etc for about £4)
tescos cheap baby clothing( they have a sale on at the mo)
Join the boots baby club for freebies, register with Huggies & pampers web sites for free vouchers.
Join tescos baby club for more vouchers.
    NCT sales are good too.
If it's any use, I have some white newborn babygros and a few bits that my baby has grown out ofthat I can send to you if you'd like??

I think you're right. I got a bit worried as I was thinking of the big carrycot part which my babes have always spent a lot of time in.

I love my Techno Classic-used it from birth, no issues. Most of my friends spent loads on a posh system and have now bought a Maclaren as it is light and easy to use and does not take up much space in bus/tube/boot of a car.

Avoid using a car seat on a system as above posts say. One of my friend's has a little boy with Flat head syndrome because of this.

Tesco nappies are fab! As are their wipes-I have tried all the nappies going!

I highly rate going to NCT sales-but get there early!

    Kiddiecare-fab website

Join as many baby sites as you can-boots, tesco are the best, but also huggies and pampers. Lots of vouchers!!

Oh and they best advice I can give is to get out as much as possible and meet new friends and join groups! I am out most days from 9-5(yes, a full time job on the move), but I can say I have just had the best 7 months of my life. Make the most of every single minute you have as time does go quickly. keep a diary!! Wish I had found the time to do that.

    All the best,

It's possible to use a car seat on the chassis of my pram for short periods - eg. popping into a shop from the car - but not recommended for long periods. I thought this was because of their back and the need to lie flat. What is flat head syndrome?? I see lots of babies in those Graco systems and they look so crushed up and uncomfortable.
  • Short periods ok-but I see so many Mums using car seats as their main use of taking baby out?

Flat head syndrome is becoming a more common thing due to this and babies being on their backs for too long. Literally a flat head at the back and can be very severe where they have to wear a helmet I think?

Tummy time helps. Remember a few years ago that babies were sleeping on their backs? Now they are told to be put on front for this reason I think? As well as cot death etc.? Sure someone else can add to this!

Hi, we are on baby no.2 and have the mamu pushchair from argos, it lies virtually flat, is an umbrella fold pushchair, comes complete with canopy and raincover for £40 - I cannot recommend this enough, its fantastic!!!!! My baby is only 2 weeks old but I feel quite comfortable with her in there and she is nowhere near as crushed as the car seat as others have said. Only disadvantage is not being able to see her as its obviously forward facing, but you can pull back the canopy to look.

We do also have a M&P 2-in1 pram system, but this is so bulky we only really use it for her to sleep downstairs in and for short walks.

    Hope this helps

    Good Luck Vicky x
