Hiya guys - got back from hospital at 12.30 am - what a day

My friend had called the ambulance as she was at her wits end, working out how to end it all as the pain and depression was too much to bear, she had literarily been pulling her hair out and punching herself. She had asked them to call me, I talked to her on the phone but could hardly understand her as she was having a panic attack, so I asked her to put the ambulance woman back on who said they were taking into hospital. I said I would follow them there, we went straight home from slimming class, dropped hubbie at home and drove straight over to the hospital which is almost 20 miles away. I arrived at 5.50 pm just after her, they did the normal checks on her and talked to her about what had happened and how she felt, and then we waited and waited. 2 hours later at 8 pm they took her into the observation ward and then we waited and waited. At 10 pm they said that a member of the crisis team would be coming in 20 minutes to talk to her, so we waited and waited again. At 11.30 pm she came, took my friend into a private room, asked her how she felt, told her what she thought caused it, said she would fax recomendations to GP and that he was still to visit her tomorrow at 2 pm as previously arranged, and that she could now go home - midnight and she only had her nightie, dressing gown and slippers on. Poor thing, she expected help and I don't really think she got it  I took her home and settled her in but I am just praying she can get through this.

Remembering that she told them that if she went home alone she would find a way to end it all, at the very least I expected her to be given a crisis number to ring if she got to that point, or some guidance as to what she could do to avoid it or deal with it, and at the best, for her to be kept in for at least the night. I have told her that we will be going out about 7.15 am in the morning and if she is up to put her living room light on and I would look for this and come round to her instead of going out. I am still not sure what I should do in the morning but feel I may stay back and sit with her till GP comes to see her.

I couldn't go straight to bed, and I still had my Monday night ice cream and chocolate cake to have, so I had that, took my tablets as I hadn't had any since 9 am  then came on here.

By the way, I had lost a pound at slimming class and hubbie lost 4 lbs () so that takes me back to 4 stone half a pound loss so far :j We were just clearing up after first class when the ambulance woman called, so had to leave consultant in the lurch for her second class, but she understood. Unfortunately it looks like I am going to let her down for tomorrows class, but she said to let her know, so we will see

Sorry you are feeling down at the moment Allie and thanks for popping in - hope you can shift that feeling and get back to your normal bright self - I do know how you feel petal

Thanks for your text message SW - I told friend that you lot were thinking about her and she said to thank you all. She has spent her life giving her time and suppor to her family and no, when she needs them, for one reason or another, they are not there for her. Bless her, she feels so alone and is in such pain too, it is not surprising that she feels this way.

George - sorry to hear your news - God bless - thinking of you and your family at this sad time - considering everything, I really must thanks you for still being there for us - you are a very good friend to SW and myself, and we appreciate it immensely

Well I expect I should get to bed now as it's way past even my normal late bed-time - I know I will get to sleep as soon as my head hits the pillow and I am hoping that this tiring day will mean that my friend will already be soundly asleep too

See you all [STRIKE]tomorrow[/STRIKE] later today - [STRIKE]night night[/STRIKE] morning morning - I am so glad you are all here :j

3Dogs I already know what a fantastic friend you and your husband are. The fact that you have been there for your friend during her crisis will be of great comfort to her. Sometimes just knowing people care makes such a difference. It may seem as though the A and E time did nothing but i am sure the cogs of our NHS are turning. From my job i know that she will now be fast tracked through the mental health facilities available. However, as my old friend Mr Blind used to say to me there are no quick solutions. What do you always say to me? Small steps. It is a move in the right direction and she will with professional help and the support of her friends, get there. I will keep praying.

Porge mate, - (one word) REST. Do you know that despite his circumstances he was still being funny in his email and PMs to cheer me up? A hero through and through. With everything i have been through recently, I am grateful as i have learned how wonderful you all are. Looking forward to the 20 questions.

    FFC hello petal. HUGS.

Allie, i hope it get's better. Remember one of us is always around to chat to. It helps the time to pass quicker and this site does cheer me up. Boult, glad your husband is making a recovery and you are here.

Many thanks Boult for the good wishes and glad you're OH is feeling better - you make sure that you catch up on your sleep as you can't afford to be out of action too :D

Well I got to bed at 3 am but did get a good deep sleep - had by then already decided not to go down to car boot with hubbie or to help friend with her class, so poped round at 7.15 am when hubbie going out to car boot - she had got though night a little better and I stayed withher till about 8.30 am and then come home for my breakfast. Will go along soon and spend some more time for her, and perhaps take her out for a while. she was going to try to drive today but I told her no, she is not capable at moment so I will go with her. She put me on her mobility insurance yesterday so can take her anywhere she wants
