i wish ours would take them back to the depot! In the last 3 years he's forced too big for the gap parcels through letter box (made the mistake of not complaining until it was properly broken so they wouldnt pay out), left them in the wheely bin (thank god not on bin day yet!), left them in the back garden out in the rain (cardboard doesnt like rain! fortunately the dress inside was well wrapped!) and wedged one in a too small gap tween the shed and fence (took me a good 10 mins to get that one out!). Quite happy for them to leave them with the neighbours. The sooner the RM gets privatised the better i say!

I think its good, personally. I had a delivery to my flat, they left it with the guys downstair, never got it. I had to email and ask where it was and they told me. I guess if you don't get the item, RM are still liable even if you ask him to post it somewhere else, they're bound to take your word over postmans? I guess
  • I live in a flat, the postman never delivers parcels only posts the cards. I wrote a letter and complained about this. Royal mail replied telling me this was standard practice, they will never take parcels to flats?!!?

i have terrible neighbours , on the rare occasion that the parcel would be given to them they would keep it themselves etc they even were trying to take our tesco order as their own ! anyway i thought it was now against the royal mail to allow goods to be given to neighbours, but i guess you could always write to them

I think it depends on the relationship you have with your postie tbh, ours knows us well and if im out and porch is locked he takes my stuff to my sisters house as she lives around the corner. I loves my postie lol
Ours told us off for ordering an official redirection when he would just have taken the items to a temporary address we were living in while our house was having an extra storey put on.

But if, as Custardy says, RM are getting stricter, then it's not your postie's fault and it's better for him not to lose his job over it.

thats even worse and could be a dismissable(or at least serious) offence
RM would view that as taking money from the business

I feel quite safe in saying he no longer works for RM and didn't get kicked out.

I agree, it's a bit bad, but in close-knit communities where everyone knows each other, it's understandable.

I still agree in principle it's better not to ask postmen to do something that would put their jobs in jeopardy.
