Gas Bill
Comments
-
About 18 months ago changed over from a pre pay meter to having a gas bill every three months, up until last week I have never recieved a bill although I have called the gas comapny on many occasions stating this, however they have now produced a demand letter for just under a thousand pounds. Can they do this as they are in the wrong ???0

There are a lot of ifs and buts, generally speaking they can only go back 12 months if they are to blame. It depends what efforts you made to sort it out, given that you made some you might have a good case. Its best to start your own thread then more people are likely to give advice relevent to your situation.
Regarding the OP something is definately wrong, I know its frustrating but its in your interest to get this sorted to avoid the bill you and others have made reference to. Best case scenario the meter is goosed and they'll have to exchange it. No cost to you for this as its not yoursMixed Martial Arts is the greatest sport known to mankind and anyone who says it is 'a bar room brawl' has never trained in it and has no idea what they are talking about.0 -
Hi, I've checked my bills and the kwh shown is as follows:
1st Feb 110 units = 13kwh
5th May 309 units = 35kwh
7th Aug 84 units = 10 kwh
110 units does not convert to 13kwh (the other 2 are wrong as well) , how they have got this figure I do not know, but how they convert it should be shown on your bill.
As a rough guide each metric gas unit is equal to 11kwh, so multiply the units by 11 to get the kwh figure.
Edit: just worked out the kwh to be 1232, 3460,and 940. If you divide them by 100 they are all just below the figures they quote.0 -
could you possibly have had credit already on your account? I remember i once payed my bill twice with British Gas and was in a similiar situation...If not i wish i had bills this low - i might change provider!0

Post 14 nails it, you can either tell them now and know you have paid the right bill or keep some money aside and wait for them to notice the error. Option no 2 is very naughty and dishonestMixed Martial Arts is the greatest sport known to mankind and anyone who says it is 'a bar room brawl' has never trained in it and has no idea what they are talking about.0

Hi, I've just phoned E.On again and they said: No the readings & charges are correct." Now what shall I do?0

Ask them how many kwh 110 units equates to (or any of the other figures), it certainly isn't 13.
This is the reason for your low bills as 13 kwh will cost between 30p and a pound.
If they keep on insisting then you will be quids in, however I am sure they will eventually twig and land you with a huge bill.0 -
It's not uncommon in new builds for things to be plumbed in incorrectly or meter numbers to be mixed up so you end up receiving bills for an empty property.
Turn on everything in your house which consumes gas and go and watch the meter. If it doesn't move you have a problem.0
