Gas Bill
Hi, I have just moved into my new house and my last 2 dual-fuel bills from E.On were very strange, as follows:
Electricity use for bills 1 & 2 £70.03 & £68.33
Gas use for bills 1 & 2 £2.18 & 62p
Now I know I'm quite frugal with the gas because I'm out at work all day, but 62p for a quarter seems very low!
Anyway, I phoned E.On to query this and they said no, everything was fine and that was the gas I'd used.
I still think they are wrong, and I don't want to be landed with a huge gas bill when they realise their mistake. What should I do?

Only thing you can do is compare the meter readings on the bill. If the meter says that then it will be correct and be thankful you have got a 62p bill :rotfl:
Then again, your meter could be foobared and has just stopped working0 -
Is it because your last bill was based on an estimated reading and this is an actualreading-what does the bill say (E,A, or C)?
If so you overpaid on the last bill and that is credited against your new one.
Forget about the amount charged, what you need to look at is the actual usage in kWh.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Hi Danny, Hi Macman,
I checked my bill and my meter readings.
I bought the house on 23rd December, but didn't move in until 1st Feb this year...because of the snow! It is a new-build with a new meter.
My meter readings were as follows:
23rd Dec opening reading on meter 68
1st Feb meter reading 178
4th May meter reading 487
3rd August meter reading 571
Reading this morning 18th Sept 609
The above meter readings were used for my bills:
E.on worked out the gas use as follows:
Bill on 1st Feb: 81p (1st bill)
Bill on 5th May: £2.18
Bill on 7th Aug: 62p
My electricity charges on the same bills were 43p, £70.03 and £68.33
Between end of December 09 and beginning of August 10, I have used 503 units on my meter and been charged £3.61.
I phoned E.on each time I received a bill and was told that the bills were correct.
I am worried that I'm going to get an enormous bill next year.0 -
Something is amiss somewhere. Put £250 aside to pay for the gas you've used so far.0

What is the price per unit on the bill? Wondering if they have got the consumption right but the bill rates are messed up. Not the first time I've seen a bill go wrong like that.
Agree with the above though, put something aside for now because if they decide it's incorrect you can bet they will want the money quickly at your cost!:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -
Check the gas meter serial on the bill matches that on meter and also check the meter and bill as they should both say the meter is meteric or imperial.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

I am worried that I'm going to get an enormous bill next year.
For example the Feb 1st bill should have been 110 units which as it is a new build should be a metric meter and should be about 1200kwh.
I see you did not move in until Feb 1st, did you have the heating on between Dec and Feb? This could account for the 110 units used.0 -
Hi Everyone,
Yes I had the heating on low before I moved in to keep the house warm during the bad weather. I'll check the kwh on my three bills and get back to you.
I could ask my neighbours about their bills...the rest of the street moved in around the same time.
Maybe I should write to E.On instead of telephoning.0 -
Hi, I've checked my bills and the kwh shown is as follows:
1st Feb 110 units = 13kwh
5th May 309 units = 35kwh
7th Aug 84 units = 10 kwh0 -
Hi Bookitten
I agree, this doesn't sound quite correct and you are right to be concerned.
The gas charges seem very low, particularly as you have now been in the property since February and you had the heating on before this.
There is already some excellent advice on here. As spiro says, make sure the Meter Serial Number on the meter is the same as the one on the bills.
